A box full of secrets
After being with Penny Dreadful for almost a year, I finally managed to get
myself together and write a small "Welcome" to all of you, guys.
First of all I would like to say that Penny for me is not a usual webzine.
As you probably already noticed, here everyone of you can communicate with
each other, submit reviews, interviews, your thoughts on concerts that you
have attended and finally just talk about music that you like.
Penny Dreadful is a freethinking magazine. The music taste of people, who
create this website is spread from folk to extreme Metal, so don't be
surprised, when you find a review or an article about Emperor next to Motley
Crue or New Model Army.
I guess, what unites us is our love to music. The music that brings
emotions, makes you think and feel, laugh and cry, dance and grieve.
The world of music reminds of a box full of secrets. With every band, every
album, every song it offers you something new. And I really believe that
Penny has a key to this box.
Stay with us and see for yourself, how deep this rabbit hole goes.
Enjoy your stay!

Adrift On Oceans of Sound
Well what can I say?
Gawd, I hate doing this sort of thing!
I guess out of everyone who is a part of the Pennydreadful concept I'm the
newbie around here so I better say a quick hello, I'll keep it brief as I very
rarely have anything constructive to say.
Pennydreadful is most certainly not your run of the mill music webzine, the
team here really does have varied tastes and ideas when it comes to music, but
that is what works in your favour. Just because you happen to be a huge 'Heavy
Metal Mutha' it doesn't mean that you can't sit back and enjoy other forms of
music, it hasn't got to be 'Metal' or 'Punk' or 'Classical', everything has a
place at some point in most peoples lives, hasn't it?
I was lucky enough to grow up around parents, especially my mother, who have
always had wide and varied musical tastes and to whom music in the house was
always more important than that little box in the corner some call T.V, because
of this I was always encouraged to explore and enjoy many forms of music and
just what emotions and feelings those sounds could stir.
I guess that is the whole point for me, music is like a voyage through un-
charted waters and I keep discovering little islands of musical diversity, so
if you to are seeking to embark on a journey through unfamiliar musical oceans,
book yourself a berth upon the good ship Pennydreadful and spend some time
cruising between our islands of musical discovery, who knows you may just get a
few nice surprises.

But What is A Music With A Soul?
It has been said that generally music is the "language of the soul", the "language of the angels", the "universal language"
and other poetic descriptions like that.. BUT.. Are they still valid in their wholeness? I shudder to think! Being surrounded by
forms of sounds that mainly (and proudly most of the time) serve the flag of money, or cheap thrill, or simply offend good taste,
finding Music With A Soul is like searching for a needle in a bloody haysack! Not easy at all! The vast majority of press is
serving the same purposes either, thus making things even harder for people interested not only to what the mass media has to
offer, but also (if not only) those little musics that make the difference between factory production and artistic inspiration.
Yet..
There will still be this rare breed of people that serve (He)art. And the persons and groups that form this breed must be provided with a
medium that will help their voices be heard. Thats what we try to do here. It's not about the big bands, they'll always have the press
to support them. It's about everybody that we judge in our imperfection that fit with the mindframe we've created. Our guide is our taste
only. We'll deal with stuff that we like, respect and believe in.
Cause, after all, art rhymes with fart.. but do they mean the same?
