"29.01.2006 Bye, and thanks for all the fish... With a heavy heart I bring you the following news: In a band meeting one hour ago I was fired as a singer of Finntroll. Reasons are many and for the most part private, but personal differences and lack of discussion have led my bandmates to doubt my commitment for this band. I believe this will be discussed widely in the following days and more info will undoubtedly be out soon for your viewing pleasure. I will only say the following: These past three years have been the best times of my life and I want to thank all the friends I've gained from this, crews past and present, supporters who came to our shows and shared the good and the bad times. I will always cherish you in my heart. Thanks for my now ex-bandmates for sharing this experience with me. Life goes on and wounds will heal. The future remains to be seen. Thank all of you and see you sometime, somewhere. -Wilska " source : finntroll official site.

From Tristania.com The band feels it is about time to reveal some more details regarding the upcoming album. It looks like it will be recorded in March, and they are happy to announce that it will be produced by Waldemar Sorychta. For this last week they have been working together with him on the pre-production in their studio. The collaboration seems to work perfect, and they are now confident that he will be the perfect producer for them in order to achieve the best possible result. As Waldemar Sorychta has produced some of their favorite metal albums (Ceremony of Opposites, Wolfheart, Wildhoney), they already knew that he was a brilliant producer. It was a huge relief to find that they also are working very well together. In the end, it was exactly what they were hoping for. Tristania is confident that next year’s album will be a great one. The songs that are ready are really strong, and with Waldemar’s skills added , everyone involved are sure it will be a killer. Tristania.

Swedish epic/power metallers FALCONER have confirmed the departure of singer Kristoffer Göbel. In a posting on their official web site, the band write, "Well, once again the line up of FALCONER is changing. 'Now again!!' you might say. It does sound a bit unstable to do this every once in a while, I know. "After realizing that changing vocalist was not that applauded by people nor was the musical change on the last album (isn't it great when people are open minded....) we thought: 'OK, sailing towards the wind is getting boring' (personally I would say a sense of cynicism started to grow), 'Why not sail with it instead in good mood?' "After changing the new music into more folkish style (and loving the sound of it) Karsten and I thought, 'Why not go the whole way, it would really fit the music. "So hereby we present you the return of Mathias Blad. "So we thank Kristoffer for the years in the band. It's been a great time we allways will cherish and we assure you all that this has nothing to do with personal matters. We wish all the best for Kriss in the future. "This kind of thing is about the worst things you can do to a bandmate if you're all friends but in the end, this is not a sand box, it's a band." FALCONER's fourth studio album, "Grime Vs. Grandeur", was released in May via Metal Blade Records. The CD features guest performances by Snowy Shaw (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND, DREAM EVIL) on drums and Andy LaRocque (KING DIAMOND) on additional lead vocals. (source : blabbermouth)

NIGHTWISH Part Ways With Singer TARJA TURUNEN, Vow To Carry On - Oct. 22, 2005 NIGHTWISH mainman Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) has issued the following "open letter" to the group's singer, Tarja Turunen: "Dear Tarja, "It's time to choose whether the story of NIGHTWISH ends here or whether it will still continue an undetermined period of time. We've been working with this creation for 9 years and we are not ready to give up yet. NIGHTWISH is a way of life, something to live for, and we're certain we can't let it go. "Equally certain is the fact that we cannot go on with you and Marcelo any longer. During the last year something sad happened, which I've been going over in my head every single day, morning and night. Your attitude and behavior don't go with NIGHTWISH anymore. There are characteristics I would never have believed to see in my old dear friend. People who don't talk with each other for a year do not belong in the same band. "We are involved in an industry where the business side of things is a necessary evil and something to worry about all the time. We are also a band which has always done music from the heart, because of friendship and the music itself. The mental satisfaction should always be more important than money! Nightwish is a band, it's an emotion. "To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with those emotions have become much more important. You feel that you have sacrificed yourself and your musical career for NIGHTWISH, rather than thinking what it has given to you. This attitude was clearly shown to me in the two things you said to me in an airplane in Toronto: 'I don't need NIGHTWISH anymore,' and 'Remember, Tuomas, that I could leave this band at any time, giving you only one day's warning in advance.' "I can't simply write any more songs for you to sing. "You have said yourself that you are merely a 'guest musician' in NIGHTWISH. Now that visit ends and we will continue NIGHTWISH with a new female vocalist. We're sure this is an equally big relief to you as it is for us. We have all been feeling bad long enough. "You told us that no matter what, the next NIGHTWISH album will be your last one. However, the rest of us want to continue as long as the fire burns. So there's no sense in doing that next album with you, either. "The four of us have been going over this situation countless times and we have realized that this is the thing we want to do in life. It's all we can do. In December 2004, in Germany, you said that you will never tour again for more than two weeks at a time. You also said that we can forget about U.S. and Australia because the fees and the sizes of venues are too small. "In interviews I've mentioned that if Tarja leaves, that would be the end of the band. I understand that people will think this way. NIGHTWISH is, however, a scenery of my soul and I'm not ready to let go because of one person. A person who wants to focus her creativity to somewhere else, a person whose values don't match mine. "We were never bothered by the fact that you didn't participate in writing/arranging songs, you never in 9 years came to rehearse the songs with us before going to the studio. Not the fact that while on tour you always wanted to fly, separately from us with your husband. Not the fact that you are an undisputable front image of the band. We accepted and felt OK about everything except greed, underestimating the fans, and breaking promises. It was agreed by the five of us that NIGHTWISH would be the priority in everything that we do during 2004-2005. Still so many things were more important to you. The ultimate example being the already sold-out show in Oslo, which you wanted to cancel because you needed to rehearse for your solo concerts, meet frieds and go to the movies. Those were the words Marcelo used in an e-mail explaining the cancellation. This being just one example of so many. I couldn't think of a worse way of being selfish and dismissing our fans. "NIGHTWISH is a way of life and a job with many obligations. To each other and to the fans. With you we can't take care of those duties anymore. "Deep within we don't know which one of you drove us to this point. Somehow Marcelo has changed you from the lovely girl you were into a diva, who doesn't think or act the way she used to. You are too sure of your irreplaceableness and status. "It's obvious that you blame your stress and misery on us four. And you think we don't respect or listen to you. Believe us; We have always had the uppermost respect towards you as a wonderful vocalist and as a friend. And very often during the past couple of years the plans were made according to your decisions only. You were always the only one who wanted more money from the shows. "This 'compensation and more money from everything' attitude is the fact that we are most disappointed of! "We wish that from now on you will listen to your heart instead of Marcelo. Cultural differences combined with greed, opportunism and love is a dangerous combination. Do not wither yourself. "This decision is not something we are especially proud of but you gave us no choice. The gap between us is too wide. And the decision is made by us four unanimously. We are beyond the point where things could be settled by talking. "All the best for your life and career, Tuomas." NIGHTWISH recorded the final show of their "Once" world tour — on Friday (Oct. 21) at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki — for an upcoming CD/DVD, entitled "End of an Era". "As you can imagine, the atmosphere in the arena was wild but also quite blue," the band write on their web site. "This was the ending for a one and a half year lasting 'Once' world Tour. NIGHTWISH wishes to thank everybody for an unbelievable tour. Unfortunately, the title 'End of an Era' also holds a deeper meaning." (source : blabbermouth)

Norwegian symphonic metal band TRISTANIA have posted the following message on their official web site: "First of all we would like thank the ones that showed up and supported us on Wave Gotik Treffen, Summer Breeze and Wacken Open Air. We had a great time. "As most of you know by now; we're currently in writing mode. Østen [Bergoy, vocals] has been writing quite some of the lyrics, and both Anders [H. Hidle, guitar] and Einar [Moen, keyboards/programming] are working busily with pre-production of the songs. Right now we are starting to jam on the new material as a complete band in the rehearsal room. We learned with 'Ashes' [2005] how fruitful this can turn out; especially considering the vocals. The whole band is shaping the material together during this process, and each member adds a personal touch to his/her lines. Usually new ideas also is born through this process, and to a certain degree we are composing music from scratch this way. This time around we also have a 'new' creative force in Svein Terje [Solvang, guitar] . "Not doing too many gigs at the moment, as we want to focus on the song writing. One of the few concerts we will do this period is in Norway: We will play the Karmøygeddon Arctic Festival, in Haugesund on November 12th — together with TÖMMERMENN (some of us are huge fans of their music) and EVERGREY, among others. "We were earlier hoping to do a full U.S. tour during this autumn. Although a couple of offers came up, the right offer to support a headliner that somehow fits our sound didn't come up this time. The reason for this was mainly that a possible U.S. tour would need to take place within a quite short time frame (after the summer festivals, before pre-production of the upcoming album). As U.S. is a new territory to tour for us (Metalfest, L.A. in 2000 is our only U.S. gig so far) we need to support a bigger band in order to tour the States. Of course, no one can control who is touring at a given time, but we're confident that the first proper U.S. tour will happen after the release of next year's album. We know from all the fan mail we have got during the years that a lot of people want us to come to U.S. Well, soon you will get this opportunity — we hope you'll use it! "Everything goes really well concerning writing the new material. Einar has built a home studio in the basement of his house, and we work there almost every weekend with pre-production of the new songs — using Nuendo. Quite soon we will also have ready a recording room for vocals connected to the studio. Other than that we are e-mailing ideas back and forth to each other and it slowly the songs are developed. We are extremely eager about the new stuff, and we feel that we have the basis for some very solid songs at the moment. In the spirit of TRISTANIA the new material is quite diverse. A couple of the tracks will include some doomy stuff, and we are working on an industrial piece. A couple of the songs can be described as dark atmospheric stuff. There will be some heavy guitar based tracks, which at least we find very catchy. In the end it is too early to tell which songs that will make it to the album, still we're confident that we will end up with an album we will be proud of. "Concerning producer and choice of studio, this decision has already been made. We will wait a little bit with publishing these details, because we first want everything to be 100% confirmed. We will come together with the producer in December, and work on the songs together. If it works out like we think it will do, we will go for this choice — and we will record the album in February, with a planned release before the summer. After the release we will be ready for heavy touring again. "Looking forward to see you guys again then!" (source blabbermouth)

ARCH ENEMY have now settled on Fredrik Åkesson as a replacement for Chris Amott (guitar) for the continued "Doomsday Machine" touring campaign. Commented ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott: "This guy, he just simply kills on the axe! Rhythms and leads — he's really got a shredding and musical style. He was down here rehearsing with us last week and we had a great time playing music and hanging out. We are eagerly looking forward to hitting the road again, this time with Fredrik on board the good ship ARCH ENEMY." Fredrik Åkesson, born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden first picked up the guitar at the age of 12, discovered Michael Schenker at the age of 14 and has been hooked on the "shred" ever since! Other early influences include Uli Jon Roth, Yngwie Malmsteen and George Lynch. Over the years Fredrik has lent his awesome guitar talent to such varied artists such as TALISMAN, JOHN NORUM, KRUX, TIAMAT and his own (now defunct) group, SOUTHPAW. Fredrik Åkesson comments on joining forces with ARCH ENEMY: "I was really thrilled when Michael Amott called me up and gave me the opportunity to play with ARCH ENEMY. I am excited about going on tour with them, and to meet you all. "C-Ya out there — it's time to burn!" ARCH ENEMY start their European tour in Paris at the Bataclan on October 2.
