Sweden's LAKE OF TEARS have set "Black Brick Road" as the title for their sixth album, tentatively due next summer through Noise Records. The recordings for the follow-up to 2002's "The Neonai" will "probably start in February or March next year," according to a post on the band's web site, and will be followed by several festival appearances during the summer, including an appearance at Sweden Rock Festival in early June. LAKE OF TEARS' last CD, "The Neonai" (Black Mark), was recorded with producer Ulf Wahlberg at Stockholm's XTC studios, and featured return guest appearances by former TIAMAT/DISMEMBER guitarist Magnus Sahlgren (who also appeared on 1999's "Forever Autumn") and vocalist Jennie Tebler (who also guested on "Lady Rosenred" off 1997's "A Crimson Cosmos").

"Yes, finally it´s true: new Waltari single "Life Without Love / One Day" will hit the shops on Monday 15th December. It will include two new songs from the forthcoming album: a club mix of "Life Without Love" and a radio edit of "One Day" + a really weird mix of the first one designed by ex-Faith No More Billy Gould. He even played some bass of his own for this special bonus track in his home studio in San Francisco. The mixing of the NEW ALBUM is about to be finished and mastering will happen soon so it looks like it will be available in February or March. The album will be released also in Austria, Switzerland, Finland and hopefully many other countries (still under negotiation). Stay tuned for updates!" source: http://www.waltarimusic.com

STRATOVARIUS guitarist Timo Tolkki has posted the following message on the band's official web site: "I am in the process of talking seriously with each bandmember about the future of STRATOVARIUS. "There are lots of rumours circling around and this statement is issued to clear some of those. "The band is in a severe crisis at the moment. "Looking back now, it is very clear to me why the situation has catapulted into crisis. "I have my own way to lead STRATOVARIUS and since being in this band since '84 (almost 20 years) I have had a very clear vision about the musical direction of STRATO. To put it short and simple, this is my band. "I decide what STRATOVARIUS sounds like. Stylists might decide how STRATOVARIUS looks like. I don't give a fuck about that though, I love music and we are not some fucking BACKSTREET BOYS. We eat metal and shit chains. "Before some of you start shouting 'dictator', I would like to tell you that we have always shared the income from the band equally. Everyone gets the same from all income. I can tell you many bands when it's not like this. "Up until very last weeks I though things were fine, there have been arguments, but nothing fancy. At this point I feel that my vision of where to take STRATOVARIUS next is threatened. Along with many other things, which I cannot tell you due to legal reasons. Let me just say this: when the things get so heated that some people in the band enter into fistfight, then something is wrong, wouldn't you agree? "I am talking with [singer Timo] Kotipelto and [bassist Jari] Kainulainen here in Finland at the moment and next week I fly to New York to talk to [keyboardist Jens] Johansson. Then I fly to Germany to talk to [drummer Jörg] Michael. And then I have to think. "So you guys have to wait for some more time for some more news. "At this point it seems 95% sure that 3 bandmembers have to leave. I really hope I can work things out with them, but if not, then they will have to go. "And to those who say I should leave STRATOVARIUS I say, hmmm well, perhaps it's better that I don't say anything, so I just say, 'Fuck Off!' I am not leaving anywhere, we just signed this new deal and I am going to continue writing new songs and there will be more albums, no matter what the line up will be. "Stay tuned for more..."

Michael Kamen, the Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated composer who fused hard-rock riffs with classical styling in albums for Pink Floyd and provided music for the "Lethal Weapon" and "Die Hard" movies," has died at age 55. Kamen collapsed in his London home Tuesday from an apparent heart attack, according to his Los Angeles-based publicist, Jeff Sanderson. Kamen collaborated with a wide range of artists, from the London Philharmonic to Aerosmith , Metallica and jazz saxophonist David Sanborn. Although Kamen was classically trained and studied oboe at New York's Julliard School, the composer's distinctive long, curly hair and beard made him look more like a heavy-metal guitarist than a classical conductor. He was known for combining those two sensibilities. Among his most famous collaborations was on the orchestral arrangements in Pink Floyd's 1979 album "The Wall." He also worked with the band on the albums "The Final Cut" and "The Division Bell." Kamen's most recent Grammy win came in 2001, when he shared the award for best rock instrumental performance with Metallica for conducting the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra in the metal-rock band's song "The Call of Ktulu." He also won a Grammy in 1996 for best instrumental arrangement with "An American Symphony," which he derived from his work on the Richard Dreyfuss (news) musical drama "Mr. Holland's Opus." His first Grammy was in 1992 for best pop instrumental performance for the theme music to "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves." In "Mr. Holland's Opus," Dreyfuss portrayed a passionate teacher who sacrificed his own ambitions to engage the imagination of his students through music. Inspired by the movie, Kamen established the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation in 1997 to raise money to make musical instruments available to the nation's children. Kamen worked with singer Bryan Adams (news) to help craft the movie theme songs "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" from "Robin Hood" and "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman" from "Don Juan DeMarco." He received Oscar nominations for co-writing those songs. Kamen also collaborated with such pop, jazz and rock stars as Sting, Rod Stewart (news), David Bowie (news) and Eric Clapton (news). Kamen was born in New York City in 1948. He started learning to play the piano at age 2 and later added the guitar, clarinet and oboe. Among his parents' friends were the musicians Huddie Ledbetter and Pete Seeger, and he grew up listening to recordings of music by Bach and Gilbert and Sullivan. Kamen played folk-blues in a jug band while simultaneously studying oboe at Julliard, and later experimented with techno, disco and rock while writing pure classical music for ballet performances. Kamen is survived by his wife, two daughters, his father and three brothers.

Therion have been busy as well, the work on the successor of “Secret Of The Runes” is making good progress, the recording has already been finished. Sweden's IN FLAMES have posted the following update on the recording process for their new album: "Hello all, now we are done with the recording of the upcoming IN FLAMES album, due out next spring. It took almost 7 weeks in total to record and the way we choose to do it was the most challenging, interesting way we've ever recorded an album. "As you might know, we did this in Denmark, where we had found a house suitable for our purposes earlier this year. It was located just outside Fredrikshamn, so even though we were camped in the middle of nowhere, we had just a few minutes to reality. "We took all our gear and hired our two great friends and producers Örjan Örnkloo and Daniel Bergstrand to produce the album. They brought their equipment along and the first week was spent mostly by building the two control rooms that were located in the two wings of the building. We also had two other good friends, Magnus & Magnus who took care of the cooking, driving, tuning, re-stringing and basically everything else that we had no time to do, as we were focusing on the recording. Without them we wouldn't be alive... "Then, as the drums were recorded earlier in Dug-Out studios, we started with the guitars, and setting the sound that we needed for them. "After another week it was time for the bass guitar, alongside the recording of the remaining guitar parts. "When the bass was finished after 6 days, Anders started on his vocals, and it all sounded great. It was the first time we could hear the energy that we had created in a more finished form. "We are really thrilled, as we built this 'studio' from scratch, and the sound that we achieved on this album can never be recreated 100%, this will be totally original, in a good way. "Anyways, hope you all will enjoy it, take care. "Anders, Peter, Daniel, Björn & Jesper"
German melodic metallers EDGUY have announced the details of their upcoming EP, "King Of Fools", due on February 2, 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records. The complete track listing for "King Of Fools" is as follows: 01. King Of Fools (3:30) 02. New Age Messiah (5:58) 03. The Savage Union (4:14) 04. Holy Water (4:13) 05. Life and Times Of A Bonus Track (3:23) Total Running Time: 21:32 According to vocalist Tobias Sammet, "There will even be two orchestra songs on the EP...it's gonna be first-class stuff and some of the material is gonna be played live as well, so there is no B-side shit at all!" Only one of the songs from the EP will appear on EDGUY's forthcoming full length album, "Hellfire Club", and according to Tobi, will be different than the version on the EP. "Hellfire Club" is due for release on March 15, 2004. The follow-up to 2001's "Mandrake", which includes a collaboration with the German film orchestra Babelsberg (THE SCORPIONS), was produced by EDGUY and Norman Meiritz, with additional assistance from Sascha Paeth (RHAPSODY, ANGRA), who was responsible for the drum sound on the album. The final mix took place at the famous Finnvox Studios (NIGHTWISH, STRATOVARIUS) in Helsinki, Finland.
