Well this is not really fresh news but penny dreadful webzine would like to present its most sincere condoleances to the "crematory-heads". No flower by request... The cremation ceremony has been delayed for the final gig of their tenth anniversary tour.
On january 2001, Anita, the female singer of the sins of thy beloved had left the band. Tsotb thought having found a replacement with Hege-Marie Aanby, but we've just learnt that she has left the band as well... So, they are trying new singers and have to delay the release of their third cd. edit Stéphane: In my opinion, the good line-up was on their first cd "lake of sorrows". They have tried to evolve but... maybe they were wrong...

A release date has not been set yet.

Finntroll's second CD "Jaktens Tid" will (finally) be released in Europe on May 21st. Great news imho, their debut "Midnattens Widunder" is fantastic, and from what I've heared, J.T. is even better! :) Three mp3 clips from the new album (as well as three from their first CD) are available at Finntroll's official homepage.
Ok, most of us know that Skyclad's new singer, Kevin "The Riddler" Ridley, was the producer for all their records so far. Additionally he's Clad's second guitarist since "Vintage Whine" and live guitarist since the Answer - tour. But that's not all, there's more info about this man and the band he was frontman of (Forgodsake) available on the web:

The official Nightwish homepage will put up soundclips from "Tenth Man Down" and "Over The Hills And Far Away" next Friday. Both songs are included on Nightwish's upcoming mini CD "Over The Hills And Far Away". Well, I just hope they won't use that Windows media player format since I'm running Linux here... :)

The second album of Martin Schirenc's (ex Pungent Stench) experimental solo project Hollenthon, "With Vilest of Worms to Dwell", will be released on June 11th. Hollenthon describe their musical style as "death/black/heavy metal with classical as well as ethnic undertones" - some mp3 clips from their debut "Domus Mundi" can be grabbed from here.

KingsX.net reports that the new King's X album will be released in September 2001. [hey, shortest news item so far :) ... ]

As most of you should know by now, the rumors were true: Martin Walkyier is playing his last gig with Skyclad at Bloodstock. While Martin's official announcement can be read at his homepage, there's no statement from the rest of the band available yet. edit Matze: Just about a minute after posting this, I checked out the Skyclad homepage again noticing that they've now kicked up their announcement, too: Kevin Ridley will be the vocalist and lyricist for "the new Skyclad".

It seems (from many different sources) that what i was feeling was right : Martin would leave Skyclad and an announcement may come out on skyclad's page and on martin walkyier's page on friday. edit Matze: Vince has made a post on the Skyclad message board denying the rumor that Jay has left the band. But no word about Martin... Personally, I'm pretty sure this means Martin leaves. :(

Not much time after the formation of The Return To The Sabbat, and the band is out for member haunting. Guitarist Pete Wadeson left for reasons unknown up to this date. The band is already auditioning musicians for the vacant place - and they'd rather be quick cause Bloodstock is near!

I noticed today that Arch Enemy's new singer is a girl (!) from germany. Check out the four mp3 clips from their new cd ("Wages of sin") over at the official Arch Enemy homepage and let us know what you think - imo Angela doesn't sound like a she at all... :)

I have noticed that marriage has become a trend lately, even among metalheads. I guess that the "lets-live-together-baby-and-see-how-it'll-go" times have passed for good, at least for the current generation. So, one of the most innovating brains in music writing, Septic Flesh guitarist Sotiris will climb the church stairs soon. Penny Dreadful wishes the best of luck to the new couple. However, the news are that due to Sotiris great bunch of responsibilities won't appear on stage with the band any more. I don't know if this will apply for cd recordings. Still though, he'll continue to compose music for the band. At least, no matter who will perform his music, it'll still be around.
Tommy Vetterli has left KREATOR! He's replaced by Sami Yli-Sirinö (ex-Waltari). Right now the band should have finished recording their new album, which is, according to Mille (vocals, guitar), a return to the "Coma..." era sound with some "Outcast" overtones. edit Stéphane : Another bad day for me. Tommy is my fave guitarist and i hope he'll not leave the musical world. Maybe a Return to Coroner??? heheheh just dreaming.
Juhani Palomaki and T.Kristian are the remnants of yearning's original line-up. The other members of the progressive/gothic/dark/doom band have left itlast year for musical and personal disagreements. The new album "frore meadow" has been released this winter (only composed and performed by the two foundators of the band). Now it seems they have found replacements of their formers colleagues in order to do live gigs. here are the newcomers : Matti S. (guitar), Loikas (bass), Jouni J.N. (keyboards) By the way, they are building an official site : Yearning official site
According to Blackmarks site, the new Bathory album (Baptised "Destroyer of Worlds")its going to be released the 30 of june of this year, hopefully it wont be delayed again...(it was originally planned to hit stores in march of 2000!) In a recent interview (Ad Noctum ) Quorthon stated that the new album will feature a little of everything, raging from the epic to the brutal, and no, it wont be "viking metal" album, at least not totally.
More news from Brad :) "Nightwish are finishing up work on their new mini CD (it should be done by now). The titles of the two new tracks are: Tenth man down and Away."
Brad writes: "This years marks 25 years of ghoulish terror brought to you by the Misfists. They'll be kicking off their anniversary tour in NYC at roseland. There'll be some guest appearences by members of the Ramones, and god knows who else. These guys are pioneers in the punk/horror genre, and all i can hope is that they keep at it for another 25 years! Check out the official site at WWW.MISFITS.COM" edit Matze: According to their website, special guests include Marky Ramone, Robo & Dez from Black Flag and Kenny Hickey from Type O Negative.

Saw at Rock Hard Magazine that Metal Blade has released a bunch of new MP3s:
Metalupdate.com has conducted an interview with Thomas Gabriel Fischer-Warrior, talking with the CF/AS singer and guitar player about his book "Are You Morbid? - Into the pandemonium of Celtic Frost", Apollyon Sun and a possible Celtic Frost reunion. In related news, Tom and his "new" band Apollyon Sun [note that their website is temporarily down due to business issues] are in the process of recording their second Album right now, which will most certainly include a new version of the old Frost classic "Procreation of the Wicked". Thanks to the official Celtic Frost homepage for most of these news! :)

A terrible rumor is spreading on the web. Martin Walkyier ( Skyclad's frontman and God of metal lyricists ) may leave the originators of folk metal soon. For the moment, officially no confirmation of this, though noone has denyied it as well. The only answers we got from the label or bandmembers themselves is : "we don't know, if there's something to be announced it will be on the official site". Though, leading an inquiry on the web, I have come to the sad conclusion that this is a scoop and no rumors. :-( For sure, we'll have an annoucement soon. So if you want to see Skyclad with Martin, you'd better go to bloodstock festival (Derby assembly rooms, 28th of May 2000). What wil happen to the remnants of Skyclad, nothing is known. Maybe Kevin Ridley (producer, second guitarist and backing vocalist) may replace Martin as Skyclad's new frontman. Concerning Martin, well, first we thought he would go on with Return to the Sabbat, but in fact, after having thought aloud, I'm personnaly in favour of another theory : Martin retiring from the musical business and writing books or lyrics for bands. Be back soon here for the future developpement of this gossip. Skyclad's official page.
At the beginning of the summer, June/July, some shows will probably be done, a few festivals, and probably a short dutch club tour, but all the rest of the time will basically be spent writing and recording songs for the new album; time to take some rest; time for introspection. Taken from The Gathering's page. Well this band has known a dramatic musical evolution. It is good to see bands that dares to change or try to do something else than the same cd for hundred times. Gaining much success though i wonder if they are not about to lose their identity. The gathering official site
"The Mystic's Dream" from Loreena McKennitt's 1994 album "The Mask And Mirror" will be used as the title theme for TNT's television adaptation of Marion Zimmer Bradley's novel THE MISTS OF AVALON. The four-hour miniseries, which stars Anjelica Huston, Julianna Margulies and Joan Allen and is directed by Uli Edel, will air on TNT in July, 2001 (dates still to be confirmed). For more information, visit The Mists Of Avalon page on TNT's site. Info taken from Quilan Road's site (see the link) Yep it's no metal, but our site is for 'music having a soul'. So Loreena McKennit, the celtic dreamweaver is welcome here. Hehe, a very special song for me... I wonder when she will decide to compose a new album.... Quinland Road - Loreena McKennit's homepage
Tristania, the norwegian dark gothic metal band is building a fantastic website with flash animations and a lot of wealthy informations. All you asked yourself about the band and never dared to ask them will be put on this page (see the link). For the moment, few items are active but you can see how the site is being updating daily. Lovers of Vibeke Stene, go there and add it to your bookmark!!! :-) Tristania's homepage
Ok, with this post I'll proudly launch Penny Dreadful Version 0.1 Alpha! :) edit Stéphane: Hey, the man is serious!! No April's day fool joke here!!! Though the site is under major construction, waiting for the interactive bands, gigs and albums reviews sections (yours reviews, dear readers cause we want this little thingie to be interactive). Oh and i forgot : soon we'll add the magnificent graphics from good old Maggy from Ancient Greece hehe...
