"Area 54 are scheduled to start recording their 2nd as yet untitled album at the end of July 2002. To raise money for the recording, they will be selling the copies they have left of the 'FEAR INSIDE' EP(this is the very 1st recording of Area 54) which was only available prior to the album, in the before time, in the long long ago. The 'FEAR INSIDE' EP is no longer available anywhere and this will probably be the last time that they will be available again. As only 500 were made, only one copy will be sold per person. There are no plans to get any pressed in the future. You can purchase a copy for £15 on the night of the 2nd round of the Emergenza Festival competition on Friday May 31st at the West One Four in Kensington. Like the 1st round, this gig will be done on the audience votes so your support is more essential than ever!! Tickets cost £6 which you can buy from Mia on : 020 8599 2676 or futuremgnt@hotmail.com Please be sure to purchase tickets in advance as they will be £9 on the door. To raise more money for the album, new merchandise will also be available throughout their forthcoming tour." source: www.area54.co.uk

"Celtic Frost are currently writing and developing material for a new album in Zurich, Switzerland. This is the culmination of a process initially set in motion during the compilation of the official Celtic Frost re-issue CDs in late summer 1999. The re-issue project reflected the first time the various former members of the band worked together again after Celtic Frost's termination in early 1993, in spite of the fact that the band has had several major offers over the years to record or perform again. Some two years of behind-the-scene efforts have preceded the present activities, and work on the album started in earnest in late 2001. The musicians involved in the current writing sessions are Martin Eric Ain (bass and vocals), Reed St.Mark (drums, percussion, and vocals), and Tom Gabriel Fischer (voice, guitars, and keyboard). This is the classic Celtic Frost line-up which was responsible for the albums "To Mega Therion" and "Into the Pandemonium". As already in 1987, the band will be completed by a second guitarist as a permanent fourth member. There has been an abundance of interest in the project from the music industry, and the band has held extensive talks about a new recording agreement in Germany, England, and North America. An official announcement regarding record company and album is expected later this spring. The album will contain largely new material, and it will not be identical with the shelved "Under Apollyon's Sun" double CD of 1992/1993, although a small number of songs from that album are being considered for inclusion. The new album is also likely to feature Part III ("Winter") of the "Requiem". Part I ("Rex Irae") was originally released on "Into the Pandemonium" in 1987. The band's official website, H2CF, is the prime official source for exclusive updates on the project." source: Homage to Celtic Frost - www.celticfrost.com

Legendary axeman GARY MOORE will release an as-yet-untitled new CD through Sanctuary Records in September (not July 1st, as previously reported). Featuring a return to the power-trio format, with Cass Lewis (bass, ex-SKUNK ANANSIE) and Darrin Mooney (drums, ex-PRIMAL SCREAM) completing the group's line-up, the upcoming album will be “a lot rawer and 'earthier' than my recent blues and I'm experimenting with some new guitar sounds,” according to Moore. “I'm back with the Strat and you'll hear the Hendrix influence in some of the riff based songs which I haven't been known for.”
GAMMA RAY guitarist Henjo Richter will not be accepting HELLOWEEN's offer to join the latter band as a replacement for the departed Roland Grapow, according to GAMMA RAY's record label Sanctuary/Metal-Is Records. As you may recall, Richter had been holding discussions with HELLOWEEN mainman Michael Weikath about joining the latter act, but has now apparently decided to stay with Kai Hansen and co., much to the relief of GAMMA RAY fans everywhere.

Breaking news from our good friends SHAMAN! The band will go to Finnvox Studio on June 17 to record their next album with producer Mika Karmila (Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Amorphis, Children Of Bodom, Waltari, Sentenced). The track list and the album title is still unclear, but the release date is set for November 2002. Jonne Jarvela, the singer and the leader of the band, said in a short interview: "I’m not sure how many songs will make it on the album. There are a few long songs and I don’t know if all of them will be include on this album." What can we expect from the new Shaman? "You will be very surprised when you’ll hear the new Shaman," Jonne says. "The new musicians are so good that you can’t even imagine! I have new band now and this band will stay!" As the Spinefarm Records now is a part of Universal Records, hopefully we can expect to see their CDs all around the world now!

Sweden's MEMORY GARDEN have teamed up with producer Mike Wead (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND) for the recording of their forthcoming studio CD following Dan Swanö's decision to withdraw from the project. According to the band, “Dan called us up in the middle of pre-production saying that he didn't have the time needed to do this thing and that he was leaving. There are no hard feelings between us it's just the way things go sometimes. [We] immediately talked to Mike Wead, who helped us out on our two last albums to see if he was interested one more time. [We are] now very happy to say that Mike will start were Dan left off and the first thing will be to get the pre-production stage cleared.

"New album 'Black Light District' out in June. Just returned from an exhausting 2 weeks session at the 'E-sound' studio, Weesp, but it was worth the trip! I can officially announce we will release a new album (mid priced, clocking around half an hour) on Psychonaut records. The first couple of months this release will only be available on internet! This album will contain the epic titletrack 'Black Light District', a song which will last a mere 16 minutes. It's a highly emotional piece of music, containing a lot of freedom and some great heavy melodies. This song didn't fit on the oktober release, which is still on the role. A propos the october album; This will be quite heavy. Defenitly the most dark, moody but also groovy album we ever made. - Hans" Seen on The Gathering's official site.

I'm back to terrorize you, my friends! There's a brand new review on the latest CD of Finnish Trollheim's Grott - "Bizarre Troll Technology". Matze, please make the box! :) Love ye all :)
:) Sorry, for not posting news about Elusive straight away, Stephane!! To tell you the truth, we're just pretty busy with "Penny's little brother": Justine and I have just done a few really great professional pictures of us, beautiful, and now are messing around, re-arranging the website of House Of Noizz - trying to fit all these pictures in there... :) I guess, it's not a music news, but if you'd look at those shots, you'd understand why I'm so excited about it! :)

As i often do, i've just visited the excellent zine HOUSE OF NOIZZ (yes Penny's little brother site -we're 4 days older, hehe :P ) from our very own Max Thrasher and i spotted a new he did not post here -tsk tsk tsk he will be punished for that! :P "Hello Max, Sorry for not being in touch for a while, how are you? We are allright and hard at work at the moment playing gigs and doing all sorts of promotion. For approx six weeks now we have been getting airplay on the most important radio channel in Norway - Petre, not enough airplay but at least we're on! Kind of weird being stuck in between George Michael and Shakira. :-) As for new stuff their might be a mini CD out in early autumn but nothing is confirmed yet. A new album is scheduled for late 2002/early 2003. So I'll be in touch if more exciting stuff happens All the best Tommy" don't forget to check HOUSE OF NOIZZ zine :)

“We are STILL doing demos. We have a few more songs to demo. We did send Roadrunner [Records] the songs that were completed. From what I understand, they liked them. The release date that some of you have heard about from the Roadrunner site [October 29th] may be the truth, for all I know. Realistically speaking, that's only six months away. I, like the rest of you, would very much like to have the CD released before then, but I would be lying if I gave a date at this time."

The Levellers have today signed a new recording deal with Eagle Rock Records. They will release new material under the Hag Records imprint, which released their original material from 1988-90 before signing a deal with China Records, and some offshoot releases since. We have completed 10 songs for the forthcoming album, and will return to the studio in June, after the Drunk In Public dates below, to complete the album and B-sides for the debut single due in August. And, in case you are asking, we haven't chosen which song will be the first single, we feel there are just too many contenders! The Levellers will be playing live on the Dale Thrower Radio Show between 8.00pm and 9.00pm today (Thursday 11th May) on the following radio stations: BBC Norfolk BBC Suffolk BBC Essex BBC Cambs BBC Northants BBC 3 Counties Radio (Beds, Herts, Bucks) The band are expected to showcase at least 3 songs from the new album as well as at least one golden oldie, and it will be the first broadcast interview about the new record. Catch it if you can! Secondly the band announce a new series of Drunk In Public dates on the following days: Thurs 16th Barnsley Student Union (01226 240740) Fri 17th Cleator Moor, Cumbria Civic Hall (01946 812469) Sat 18th Isle of Skye Cellar - Dunvegan Hotel (01470 521313) Sun 19th Inverness Raigmore (01463 231219/ 01463 221546) Mon 20th Day Off Tues 21st Shetland British Legion (01595 693474) Weds 22nd Shetland British Legion (01595 693474) Thurs 23rd Day Off Fri 24th Orkney Folk Festival (01856 851331) Sat 25th Thurso Central Hotel (01854 612554/ 01854 613342) Sun 26th Forres Loft (01343 543778/ 01343 850078) Mon 27th Day Off Tues 28th Ullapool Village Hall (01854 612554/ 01854 613342) Weds 29th Perth Twa Tams (01738 629730/ 01738 634500) Thurs 30th Berwick Upon Tweed The Wine Cellars (01289 308013) Fri 31st Brighouse The Old Corn Mill (01484 400069) Don't forget about the May tour. America's fledgling Internet radio industry could be effectively killed on May 21st if the U.S. Copyright Office accepts the recommendations of its recent Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel ("CARP") recommendation concerning Internet radio royalty rates and establishes its proposed record-keeping requirements for webcasters. Background: Congress passed a law in October, 1998, called the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) which established that webcasters must pay "performance rights" fees to record labels for the music they play. That law instructed the Copyright Office to set the appropriate rate. However, the CARP's recommended rates are currently more than 100% of most Webcasters' gross revenues! The Copyright Office is required by Congress to decide whether to accept, reject or modify the CARP's recommended rates by May 21, 2002. If they accept the CARP panel's recommendation, most observers believe that the decision will effectively kill Internet radio as an industry, as the decision could bankrupt all but the three or four largest webcasters. A live recording of the last-ever performance of the classic SEPULTURA line-up of Max Cavalera (guitar/vocals), Igor Cavalera (drums), Andreas Kisser (guitar) and Paulo Pinto Jr. (bass), which took place at Brixton Academy in London on December 16th, 1996, is tentatively scheduled to be released in CD form, under the title Live At Brixton, through Roadrunner Records in August.
Sweden's HAMMERFALL are scheduled to enter Holland's Wisseloord studios with producer Charlie Bauernfeind (i.e. BLIND GUARDIAN, GAMMA RAY, RAGE) in early May to begin recording their as-yet-untitled fourth full-length album for a late 2002 release through Nuclear Blast Records. According to guitarist Oscar Dronjak, “we will record the drums in Holland, bass in Germany and the rest in Spain. The reason for this is that we wanted to use a classic — and therefore vastly expensive — recording studio in Holland that has hosted such high profile acts as QUEENSRŸCHE, DEF LEPPARD, RAMMSTEIN, THE SCORPIONS, U2, IRON MAIDEN, SAXON, STING, METALLICA and JUDAS PRIEST, just to name a few.
DANIEL CAVANAGH To Rejoin ANATHEMA? - Apr. 9, 2002 Guitarist Daniel "Danny" Cavanagh has decided to rejoin Britain's ANATHEMA, and is hoping to bring his brother Jamie, the group's original bassist, back into the band's ranks with him. “After careful consideration, based on the truth, my deepest feelings and the wishes of our mum Helen, I have decided to change my mind about leaving ANATHEMA,” Danny said in an official statement. “I feel the story is incomplete, and as I have been heavily involved since day one, I think I should rest within the band until it reaches its own natural conclusion. “I have e-mailed all the other members of the band, though as yet I have only had a reply from [ANTIMATTER bandmate and former ANATHEMA bassist] Duncan Patterson, who, as usual, has been very understanding. “I do not know for certain if Vincent [Cavanagh, vocals/guitar] or the lads will want me to return, and I know I would want/need my brother Jamie by my side to do this properly. I await their response not knowing what it's going to be! “This band needs an injection of REALISM, HONESTY, TRUTH and SINCERITY. DEATH TO FALSE MUSIC, DEATH TO FALSE PEOPLE, NO P.” In the same statement, Canavagh makes it perfectly clear that he feels no love for former ANATHEMA bassist Dave Pybus, who left the group last year and subsequently toured with CRADLE OF FILTH as a session musician."
"CANDLEMASS/MEMENTO MORI frontman Messiah Marcolin has launched a brand new Stockholm, Sweden-based “gothic synth rock” band called REQUIEM, which also features in its ranks Peter Moore (synthesizers, programming and speech), and Michael Samuelsson (guitars, bass and speech). A recent three-song demo is presently available for download from the group's official web site at this location http://www.requiem.nu/ The tracks featured are as follows: 01. Illusions Fall 02. Declare It Dead 03. I Stand Alone" Source "blabbermouth"
"We are proud to announce a new CD which will be released on Psychonaut records june this year! We're still thinking about tracklisting etc, as we have enough songs. Yes, we will also release an album in october (possibly november 2002)"
Guitarist Mark Jansen has just left the gothic/Doom Metal band AFTER FOREVER. "Our guitarplayer/screamer and composer Mark Jansen will sadly be leaving After Forever. Mark and the band have grown apart on musical terms. Mark was one of the founders and forces behind After Forever. We thank him for his important contribution to the success that the band has gained through the years. We count on it that we will be seeing him on stage with an other band. Therefore we wish him all the best with his music career. The role of Mark will be taken over by Bas Maas. Bas has a lot of experience as a guitarplayer coming from different bands and he's now working very hard to be ready for his first show, which will be Leidsekade Live in Paradiso, Amsterdam on the 7th of April." A problem cause the band was supposed to tour with nightwish soon.

Vocalist Tarja Turunen will leave Finland's NIGHTWISH in the fall to focus on her classical singing studies in Germany, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. NIGHTWISH will reportedly promote the release of their forthcoming Century Child CD with a host of European mini- tours and festival appearances during the summer, but will go separate ways once Turunen's school resumes at the end of the year. Although Tarja's departure from NIGHTWISH has been rumored for several months now, it has not yet been confirmed or denied by an official source. When recently asked about having to choose between a career in classical music and playing with NIGHTWISH, Turunen responded simply that “of course I have only one career, and that's the opera career.” NIGHTWISH have thus far issued three full-length studio efforts and are in the process of completing the aforementioned Century Child CD for a July 1st release. --------------------------Rumor denied-------------------------------- Despite rumors to the contrary, NIGHTWISH vocalist Tarja Turunen will not leave the band in order to focus on her classical singing studies in Germany in the fall, according to band manager Ewo Rytkönen, who spoke to www.soneraplaza.fi earlier today. Instead, NIGHTWISH will take a long break following the completion of the band's upcoming Century Child three-month world tour, and will not reunite before the end of 2003 or the beginning of 2004, at the earliest. The break will allow Tarja to complete her studies before rejoining forces with the rest of the band for the recording of the group's follow-up to Century Child. “A touring break is not that unusual nowadays, especially when you consider some of the bigger bands like STRATOVARIUS, so there's no fear of NIGHTWISH splitting up,” stated Rytkönen. “However, the news of this extended break from the touring front will hopefully give all of the band's fans the incentive to attend NIGHTWISH's summer dates, since it may be quite some time before they get a chance to see the group play out again.” NIGHTWISH's fourth full-length studio album, the aforementioned Century Child, is due to be released on July 1st.

Edguy’s Tobias Sammet and his side-project Avantasia prepare to release the second part of their "Metal Opera". Tobi promises some more surprises, like a new character, sung by Magnum's Bob Catley and Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius) playing guitars. Another Heavy Metal veteran - drummer Eric Singer (Kiss, Bryan May Band, Alice Cooper) - plays on one track. Track list is not given yet, but by now we’re promised ten real songs and some interludes, with the opener, 14 minutes long "Seven Angels".
Dave Mustaine - founder, vocalist and guitarist of Megadeth has just announced his departure from the band! Suffering from a serious injury that affected his ability to play a guitar, Dave disbanded Megadeth after nearly 20 years of successful career. Here’s an extracts from Dave’s message, published on www.metal-rules.com [edit Matze: original source www.megadeth.com] that explains the current situation: "During the first week of January 2002, while Megadeth was on hiatus, in Texas, I suffered an injury that caused severe nerve damage to my left arm and hand. It was diagnosed as Radial Neuropathy - specifically, a "compressed radial nerve." My doctors tell me it will take about a year to make as complete a recovery as I can, and even then, we don't know how complete that is going to be. I am working hard with a great team of doctors and physical therapists daily, and God willing, someday I hope to play guitar again. In the meantime, while I work on rebuilding my arm, I will take this opportunity to reappraise my career and my future. For the time being I have decided to exit Megadeth, and explore other areas of the music business where I might make a contribution without being able to play my instrument."
