Wilska out of Finntroll
Posted by: Stéphane @ 23:38 CET

"29.01.2006 Bye, and thanks for all the fish...
With a heavy heart I bring you the following news: In a band meeting one hour ago I was fired as a singer of Finntroll. Reasons are many and for the most part private, but personal differences and lack of discussion have led my bandmates to doubt my commitment for this band. I believe this will be discussed widely in the following days and more info will undoubtedly be out soon for your viewing pleasure. I will only say the following: These past three years have been the best times of my life and I want to thank all the friends I've gained from this, crews past and present, supporters who came to our shows and shared the good and the bad times. I will always cherish you in my heart. Thanks for my now ex-bandmates for sharing this experience with me. Life goes on and wounds will heal. The future remains to be seen.

Thank all of you and see you sometime, somewhere.

-Wilska

Tristania Announce New Producer
Posted by: Pax @ 7:03 CET

From Tristania.com

The band feels it is about time to reveal some more details regarding the upcoming album.

It looks like it will be recorded in March, and they are happy to announce that it will be produced by Waldemar Sorychta.

For this last week they have been working together with him on the pre-production in their studio. The collaboration seems to work perfect, and they are now confident that he will be the perfect producer for them in order to achieve the best possible result.

As Waldemar Sorychta has produced some of their favorite metal albums (Ceremony of Opposites, Wolfheart, Wildhoney), they already knew that he was a brilliant producer. It was a huge relief to find that they also are working very well together. In the end, it was exactly what they were hoping for.

Tristania is confident that next year’s album will be a great one. The songs that are ready are really strong, and with Waldemar’s skills added , everyone involved are sure it will be a killer.

Tristania.

Matthias Blad back in Falconer!
Posted by: Stéphane @ 15:54 CET

Swedish epic/power metallers FALCONER have confirmed the departure of singer Kristoffer Göbel. In a posting on their official web site, the band write, "Well, once again the line up of FALCONER is changing. 'Now again!!' you might say. It does sound a bit unstable to do this every once in a while, I know.

"After realizing that changing vocalist was not that applauded by people nor was the musical change on the last album (isn't it great when people are open minded....) we thought: 'OK, sailing towards the wind is getting boring' (personally I would say a sense of cynicism started to grow), 'Why not sail with it instead in good mood?'

"After changing the new music into more folkish style (and loving the sound of it) Karsten and I thought, 'Why not go the whole way, it would really fit the music.

"So hereby we present you the return of Mathias Blad.

"So we thank Kristoffer for the years in the band. It's been a great time we allways will cherish and we assure you all that this has nothing to do with personal matters. We wish all the best for Kriss in the future.

"This kind of thing is about the worst things you can do to a bandmate if you're all friends but in the end, this is not a sand box, it's a band."

FALCONER's fourth studio album, "Grime Vs. Grandeur", was released in May via Metal Blade Records. The CD features guest performances by Snowy Shaw (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND, DREAM EVIL) on drums and Andy LaRocque (KING DIAMOND) on additional lead vocals.

Nightwish parts ways with Tarja Turunen
Posted by: Stéphane @ 13:53 CET

NIGHTWISH Part Ways With Singer TARJA TURUNEN, Vow To Carry On - Oct. 22, 2005

NIGHTWISH mainman Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) has issued the following "open letter" to the group's singer, Tarja Turunen:

"Dear Tarja,

"It's time to choose whether the story of NIGHTWISH ends here or whether it will still continue an undetermined period of time. We've been working with this creation for 9 years and we are not ready to give up yet. NIGHTWISH is a way of life, something to live for, and we're certain we can't let it go.

"Equally certain is the fact that we cannot go on with you and Marcelo any longer. During the last year something sad happened, which I've been going over in my head every single day, morning and night. Your attitude and behavior don't go with NIGHTWISH anymore. There are characteristics I would never have believed to see in my old dear friend. People who don't talk with each other for a year do not belong in the same band.

"We are involved in an industry where the business side of things is a necessary evil and something to worry about all the time. We are also a band which has always done music from the heart, because of friendship and the music itself. The mental satisfaction should always be more important than money! Nightwish is a band, it's an emotion.

"To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with those emotions have become much more important. You feel that you have sacrificed yourself and your musical career for NIGHTWISH, rather than thinking what it has given to you. This attitude was clearly shown to me in the two things you said to me in an airplane in Toronto: 'I don't need NIGHTWISH anymore,' and 'Remember, Tuomas, that I could leave this band at any time, giving you only one day's warning in advance.'

"I can't simply write any more songs for you to sing.

"You have said yourself that you are merely a 'guest musician' in NIGHTWISH. Now that visit ends and we will continue NIGHTWISH with a new female vocalist. We're sure this is an equally big relief to you as it is for us. We have all been feeling bad long enough.

"You told us that no matter what, the next NIGHTWISH album will be your last one. However, the rest of us want to continue as long as the fire burns. So there's no sense in doing that next album with you, either.
"The four of us have been going over this situation countless times and we have realized that this is the thing we want to do in life. It's all we can do. In December 2004, in Germany, you said that you will never tour again for more than two weeks at a time. You also said that we can forget about U.S. and Australia because the fees and the sizes of venues are too small.

"In interviews I've mentioned that if Tarja leaves, that would be the end of the band. I understand that people will think this way. NIGHTWISH is, however, a scenery of my soul and I'm not ready to let go because of one person. A person who wants to focus her creativity to somewhere else, a person whose values don't match mine.

"We were never bothered by the fact that you didn't participate in writing/arranging songs, you never in 9 years came to rehearse the songs with us before going to the studio. Not the fact that while on tour you always wanted to fly, separately from us with your husband. Not the fact that you are an undisputable front image of the band. We accepted and felt OK about everything except greed, underestimating the fans, and breaking promises. It was agreed by the five of us that NIGHTWISH would be the priority in everything that we do during 2004-2005. Still so many things were more important to you. The ultimate example being the already sold-out show in Oslo, which you wanted to cancel because you needed to rehearse for your solo concerts, meet frieds and go to the movies. Those were the words Marcelo used in an e-mail explaining the cancellation. This being just one example of so many. I couldn't think of a worse way of being selfish and dismissing our fans.

"NIGHTWISH is a way of life and a job with many obligations. To each other and to the fans. With you we can't take care of those duties anymore.

"Deep within we don't know which one of you drove us to this point. Somehow Marcelo has changed you from the lovely girl you were into a diva, who doesn't think or act the way she used to. You are too sure of your irreplaceableness and status.

"It's obvious that you blame your stress and misery on us four. And you think we don't respect or listen to you. Believe us; We have always had the uppermost respect towards you as a wonderful vocalist and as a friend. And very often during the past couple of years the plans were made according to your decisions only. You were always the only one who wanted more money from the shows.

"This 'compensation and more money from everything' attitude is the fact that we are most disappointed of!

"We wish that from now on you will listen to your heart instead of Marcelo. Cultural differences combined with greed, opportunism and love is a dangerous combination. Do not wither yourself.

"This decision is not something we are especially proud of but you gave us no choice. The gap between us is too wide. And the decision is made by us four unanimously. We are beyond the point where things could be settled by talking.

"All the best for your life and career, Tuomas."

NIGHTWISH recorded the final show of their "Once" world tour — on Friday (Oct. 21) at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki — for an upcoming CD/DVD, entitled "End of an Era". "As you can imagine, the atmosphere in the arena was wild but also quite blue," the band write on their web site. "This was the ending for a one and a half year lasting 'Once' world Tour. NIGHTWISH wishes to thank everybody for an unbelievable tour. Unfortunately, the title 'End of an Era' also holds a deeper meaning."

Tristania to record new album in february
Posted by: Stéphane @ 21:05 CET

Norwegian symphonic metal band TRISTANIA have posted the following message on their official web site:

"First of all we would like thank the ones that showed up and supported us on Wave Gotik Treffen, Summer Breeze and Wacken Open Air. We had a great time.

"As most of you know by now; we're currently in writing mode. Østen [Bergoy, vocals] has been writing quite some of the lyrics, and both Anders [H. Hidle, guitar] and Einar [Moen, keyboards/programming] are working busily with pre-production of the songs. Right now we are starting to jam on the new material as a complete band in the rehearsal room. We learned with 'Ashes' [2005] how fruitful this can turn out; especially considering the vocals. The whole band is shaping the material together during this process, and each member adds a personal touch to his/her lines. Usually new ideas also is born through this process, and to a certain degree we are composing music from scratch this way. This time around we also have a 'new' creative force in Svein Terje [Solvang, guitar] .

"Not doing too many gigs at the moment, as we want to focus on the song writing. One of the few concerts we will do this period is in Norway: We will play the Karmøygeddon Arctic Festival, in Haugesund on November 12th — together with TÖMMERMENN (some of us are huge fans of their music) and EVERGREY, among others.

"We were earlier hoping to do a full U.S. tour during this autumn. Although a couple of offers came up, the right offer to support a headliner that somehow fits our sound didn't come up this time. The reason for this was mainly that a possible U.S. tour would need to take place within a quite short time frame (after the summer festivals, before pre-production of the upcoming album). As U.S. is a new territory to tour for us (Metalfest, L.A. in 2000 is our only U.S. gig so far) we need to support a bigger band in order to tour the States. Of course, no one can control who is touring at a given time, but we're confident that the first proper U.S. tour will happen after the release of next year's album. We know from all the fan mail we have got during the years that a lot of people want us to come to U.S. Well, soon you will get this opportunity — we hope you'll use it!

"Everything goes really well concerning writing the new material. Einar has built a home studio in the basement of his house, and we work there almost every weekend with pre-production of the new songs — using Nuendo. Quite soon we will also have ready a recording room for vocals connected to the studio. Other than that we are e-mailing ideas back and forth to each other and it slowly the songs are developed.

We are extremely eager about the new stuff, and we feel that we have the basis for some very solid songs at the moment. In the spirit of TRISTANIA the new material is quite diverse. A couple of the tracks will include some doomy stuff, and we are working on an industrial piece. A couple of the songs can be described as dark atmospheric stuff. There will be some heavy guitar based tracks, which at least we find very catchy. In the end it is too early to tell which songs that will make it to the album, still we're confident that we will end up with an album we will be proud of.

"Concerning producer and choice of studio, this decision has already been made. We will wait a little bit with publishing these details, because we first want everything to be 100% confirmed. We will come together with the producer in December, and work on the songs together. If it works out like we think it will do, we will go for this choice — and we will record the album in February, with a planned release before the summer. After the release we will be ready for heavy touring again.

"Looking forward to see you guys again then!"

Arch Enemy announces new guitarist
Posted by: Stéphane @ 13:18 CET

ARCH ENEMY have now settled on Fredrik Åkesson as a replacement for Chris Amott (guitar) for the continued "Doomsday Machine" touring campaign.

Commented ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott: "This guy, he just simply kills on the axe! Rhythms and leads — he's really got a shredding and musical style. He was down here rehearsing with us last week and we had a great time playing music and hanging out. We are eagerly looking forward to hitting the road again, this time with Fredrik on board the good ship ARCH ENEMY."

Fredrik Åkesson, born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden first picked up the guitar at the age of 12, discovered Michael Schenker at the age of 14 and has been hooked on the "shred" ever since! Other early influences include Uli Jon Roth, Yngwie Malmsteen and George Lynch. Over the years Fredrik has lent his awesome guitar talent to such varied artists such as TALISMAN, JOHN NORUM, KRUX, TIAMAT and his own (now defunct) group, SOUTHPAW.

Fredrik Åkesson comments on joining forces with ARCH ENEMY: "I was really thrilled when Michael Amott called me up and gave me the opportunity to play with ARCH ENEMY. I am excited about going on tour with them, and to meet you all. "C-Ya out there — it's time to burn!"

ARCH ENEMY start their European tour in Paris at the Bataclan on October 2.

Skyclad confirmed for Tuska Open Air
Posted by: Matze @ 21:18 CET

The organizers of this year's Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in Helsinki, Finland have been forced to make a couple of slight but very regrettable changes in the program.

British cult band BAL-SAGOTH have been forced to cancel their performance at the festival. For some time now, the band have stated on their web site that the recordings of their forthcoming album are still in their final stages. As a result, the Tuska organizers have received the following message from the band's frontman Byron:

"BAL-SAGOTH will regrettably not now be playing the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in Helsinki, Finland as previously planned. This is due to the fact that the band are in the final stages of recording the long awaited and much delayed sixth and final album, and all available time and effort is being directed towards the completion of the opus. However, BAL-SAGOTH greatly look forward to playing in Helsinki and meeting their steadfast Finnish supporters later in the year once the sixth album has been completed."

Plans for a club show in Helsinki this autumn are currently underway.

Replacing BAL-SAGOTH at this year's festival will be British folk metal pioneers SKYCLAD. The band were one of the first to combine traditional metal with folk influences in a way that has attracted a large number of followers. SKYCLAD's last studio album, "A Semblance of Normality", was released in 2004.

Immediately prior to their Tuska appearance, SKYCLAD will perform two days in a row at the Dong Festival in Germany, with a regular performance scheduled for Friday, July 15 and an acoustic one slated for Saturday, July 16. SKYCLAD will perform at Tuska on Sunday, July 17 at 4:45 p.m. on the Sue Stage.

There are still a few hundred tickets left for Friday, July 15. All other tickets are sold out. Remaining tickets for Friday cost 32 euros each and they are sold at Tiketti (www.tiketti.fi) and Lippupalvelu (www.lippupalvelu.fi).

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival is set to be held July 15-17 at Kaisaniemi Park in Helsinki, Finland. Bands slated to appear at the festival include MONSTER MAGNET, APOCALYPTICA, FINNTROLL, PRIMAL FEAR, DESTRUCTION, DIMMU BORGIR, TESTAMENT, GAMMA RAY, ACCEPT, SENTENCED, CHILDREN OF BODOM and EVERGREY.

Coroner rule out reunion ... :(
Posted by: Stéphane @ 0:26 CET

The legendary technical metal band CORONER from Zurich, Switzerland have reportedly ruled out the possibility of a reunion, despite the recent offer of a festival appearance as well as other live performances.

According to a posting on The Unofficial Coroner Web Site, "Marky [Marquis Marky, a.k.a. Marky Edelmann, drums] wrote [in a recent e-mail that] he met Ron [Royce, a.k.a. Ron Broder, bass/vocals] and Tommy [Vetterli, a.k.a. Tommy T. Baron, guitar] two weeks ago to talk about the reunion. Unfortunately, he said it was now 100% sure there would be no CORONER reunion or live shows. He explained the main reason was that neither he, Ron, nor Tommy had the time it would require to do this properly, and also that neither of them liked to, I quote, 'reheat things, except spaghetti sauce.'

"Marky explicitly asked me not to post his e-mail on the web, but he said that they were all extremely touched by the interest of all the fans and — for this very reason, I believe — they would meet again in two weeks for two other things he doesn't want me to reveal yet. Both things are still very uncertain, and one of them — the most uncertain of the two — is particularly exciting, although it's not a reunion, and it's not a new album.

"Keep checking the CORONER Message Board and this site for news because one of the things he talked about, if it happens, will be an exclusive time-limited opportunity that will be announced here.

"More news about all those mysteries as soon as I hear from Marky again and get the green light from him! :)"

New Model Army: new album in September
Posted by: Matze @ 16:07 CET

"The long awaited new album, titled "Carnival" has now been completed and plans are being finalised. UK and European release date will be September 5th. North America one day later on Sept 6th. Why? because Europe release on a Monday, US on a Tuesday. We will try to keep you up to date with arrangements around the world, but don't forget - if you can't get it locally you will be able to get it from The Shop from the day of release. We will be taking orders from one week before and will ship on Monday 5th.

It will be released (as all recent albums) through the band's own label - Attack Attack Records, and will be distributed by independent companies in each territory. Catalogue number is ATK2311 and it will be on store release schedules (meaning you will be able to pre-order it) from mid July. Precise details of distribution partners will appear soon.

Cover is another fabulous piece from Joolz - previewed on tour postcards earlier in the year and will feature on all tour promotion in the autumn

Mostly written in their studio in Bradford and then arranged by the band in the recording studio, Carnival really conveys the power of the band - pounding rhythms, soaring bass, driving guitars and biting vocals combine in the passionate and dynamic way that only NMA can produce. Justin's lyrics are as poignant as always. Subject matter swings from Britain and Bradford to Africa via religion and relationships, and the poetry is as beautiful as ever. Of course, the CD will be presented with a full lyric booklet.

NEW MODEL ARMY - Summer dates confirmed:

Friday 1st July - Amsterdam. Melkweg-Oude Zaal
Saturday 2nd July - Fusion Festival, Germany - www.fusion-festival.de
Friday 15th July - Forestglade, Austria - www.forestglade.at"

Cruachan news
Posted by: Stéphane @ 23:19 CET

Keith Fay (vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards) of the Irish folk metal band CRUACHAN has posted the following message on the group's official web site:

"I am delighted to announce that the Father of Folk Metal, Martin Walkyier, will be doing guest vocals for one track on our next album. I am a huge fan of Martin's since early SABBAT and SKYCLAD so for me this is a huge honour."

CRUACHAN recently parted ways with Karmageddon Media. The group's final release for the label will be a reissue of their 1994 "Celtica" demo, featuring unreleased tracks, including "Timmy", which has been performed live at quite a few CRUACHAN shows.

King's X news
Posted by: Matze @ 22:27 CET

KING'S X have inked a new worldwide deal with InsideOut Music. The group's recently completed new studio album is scheduled for release on September 27. The CD was produced by veteran metal producer Michael Wagener (SKID ROW, WARRANT, ACCEPT, HAMMERFALL) and is set to include the following tracks (in no particular order):

01. Bam
02. Where Do You Go
03. Honesty
04. Open My Eyes
05. Mud
06. Sooner or Later
07. Freedom
08. Fly
09. Alison
10. If
11. Be Bop
12. Alone
13. Stay

Two videos will reportedly be filmed before the CD's release, which will coincide with a U.S. tour. A trip overseas is also being planned.

As previously reported, KING'S X frontman Doug Pinnick will release his third solo album, "Emotional Animal", on July 19 via Magna Carta Records. Doug played most of the instruments and vocals on the CD, which features a guest appearance by KING'S X drummer Jerry's son Joy Gaskill (drums) and Kelly Watson (mouth trumpet and vocals on "Freak The Funk Out"). The CD was recorded and mixed at Poundhound Studio by Dug, and mastered by Ty Tabor. "Emotional Animal" will have an interview and bonus demo versions of two of the songs on the CD-ROM portion of the disc.

While Pinnick's previous solo outings were credited to POUNDHOUND, this will be the first to feature solely Pinnick's name (or a slight variation thereof: DUG PINNICK). He described the album to Billboard.com as mostly rock-based but with a few surprises, including the gospel-tinged "Equal Rights", as well as a dance track, "When You Gonna Come".

Iscariah and former TCD crew already hard at work
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:17 CET

"Hello boys & girls!

Just a quick note to let you in on whats going on! As you all know, it all went slightly downhill rapidly here for the upcoming release. Well, it has kind of gone rapidly downwards for a long time, and very downwards in the end. Anyways, due to legal reaons, The Clan Destined ARE allowed to legally use the tracks/recording for his release anyways. At the same time, we...the new band which will rise from the crypt of this, are also allowed to do the same. We will all see how this turns out in the end, but I am sure Martin will continue to release this MCD.
Anyways, despite all this craziness, me and lee cassidy (first), will start recording demos within very short time & will announce a full new lineup shortly after that is done. We have 9 new songs which are more or less ready to go & i can assure you all this time we will NOT wait forever and drag it all out. We will work fast & focused for this. I think we all deserve that & the best force of defense is always dicipline & focus.
No name yet for the new band, but we are VERY open for suggestions, so please keep coming with them!

In the meantime, and during all this shit...I have been recording a demo which is available at:

http://www.myspace.com/deadtothisworld

This is the whole demo in its entirety which should be the only way to use a demo these days. To spread the name first of all through music. So, even though this is a small project i do, its at least something in the wait for the big happening.

I am extremely confident now & are very fukkin ready for battling onwards & upwards. In between all work as we prepare the new beginning, I will stay on here an talk as much bollocks as I can haha.

Cheers to all old & new members....now..back to the guitar & a bottle of heineken (teutonic beer uber alles).

Iscariah

Oh! Must add that the demo you hear on the link has nothing to do with the upcoming band. Its just me being abit nostalgic and pissed off. "

Ataraxia news
Posted by: Stéphane @ 12:51 CET

"There are many fabulous places, imagined, visited or skimmed over in dreams,
there are gardens and kingdoms, lost in the meanders of time,
carried away, carried away by our notes…"

Book + CD available in winter 2005 by Ark Records - Italy
Everything has its origins in the stone and the stone is at the origin of everything.
ATARAXIA have built the foundations of their manor with that rough material to
make them stronger and unaffectable by time. The water, symbol of death and
re-birth, has become their spiritual guide and has given them the chance to
progress, to shape and to transform their art throughout the years. Then, the doors
of the realm of dreams have opened to allow them to enter a contemplative
dimension. At the end, walking through a labyrinth leading to a painful and
surprising knowledge of themselves, they achieved a new state of enlightenment.
What distinguishes a raw stone from a precious one lies in its capacity to be
crossed by light and filter it. 'Arcana Eco' is a journey from the rocky underworld
up to an eden of light.
'Arcana Eco' is a book describing the story of ATARAXIA's albums through the
images of voyage that inspired them.
'Arcana Eco' is also the travel diary of Ferruccio Filippi, a music journalist who
reached ATARAXIA's place to talk with them about their art.
'Arcana Eco ' is a voyage within a voyage.

BOOK : six chapters developping through Livio Bedeschi's photos, Ferruccio
Filippi's reflections and Francesca Nicoli's writings; an exhaustive interview; a full
discography and the 'Arcana Eco' Cd lyrics.

CD : 7 exclusive tracks recorded and mixed between April and July 2004 (total length
36 mn), four of them are new, the other three are older songs revisited with a today
sensibility.

TCD ... the split?
Posted by: Stéphane @ 13:38 CET

"Line-up change!

Due to unprofessional behavior & defamation of character by Martin Walkyier against Iscariah, we, the undersigned members of The Clan Destined have, unanimously and without hesitation, decided to leave the band. Because all The Clan Destined music was written, performed and recorded by us, these tracks will be reclaimed and used in a new band. This new line-up will be announced very shortly. We would like to thank all fans, partners, producers, contributors, friends and forum members of The Clan Destined for their incredible support and patience in waiting for the TCD release, and guarantee their wait will not have been in vain.

With the release of this statement, the following band members have now officially left The Clan Destined:

Iscariah aka Stian Smorholm
Kara Sultan
Tony Wildwood
Lee Cassidy
And Emily Dolan Davies.

We would also like to thank the following TCD members for their invaluable contribution. These members left at different times but for the same reasons as outlined above.

Dong Open Air: Line up complete! Running order done!
Posted by: Matze @ 7:41 CET

Dear boys and girls who seem to have a very decent taste in music!

D:O:A Productions proudly announces the complete billing of the D:O:A 2005! 19 bands, 20 shows, played at the two festival days should probably be enough to keep you entertained. The same procedure as every year: A well-mixed variety of Death, Power, Thrash, Black and Folk Metal, as well Rock'n'Roll won’t let anyone have an excuse to not throw their hair into the air, while there still will be some “nobodies” on stage in order to change that status.

Of course this was not due to financial problems. On the contrary! We are trying to present next to well-known artists some new, young and juvenescent combos to let them surprise and win you over with musical qualities and delight in playing. In case any of you can recall Crikey, The Rules or Equilibrium… you know what I am talking about….

Running Order:

21:05 - 21:50 Hate Factor - Death Metal
22:10 - 23:10 Delirious - Thrash Metal

After forever in recording mode
Posted by: Stéphane @ 23:53 CET

Dutch gothic/atmospheric doom metal group AFTER FOREVER have posted the following recording update on their official web site:

"The recordings of our fourth full length album, 'Remagine', have finally begun!

"Monday, March 7, the recordings of the drums started. The first thing we asked the studio engineers was to give a professional assessment of the recording quality of the drums on the pre-production we had recorded.

"André [Borgman, who last month underwent surgery to remove a tumor] had drummed on this pre-production and we hoped we would be able to use this material. To our great relief the engineers thought this was top-quality material. So, without André being present in the studio, his drums will be on 'Remagine'!!! We thank Ernst van der Ee, André's friend and professional example, who was prepared to drum the album, for being there if necessary.

"After hearing this positive news André was very excited and hopefully that happiness will make him recover faster!

"He started with his second chemical therapy session and so far there are no complications. He is responding well to this treatment so let's hope he will not get sick like last time. He'll be in the hospital until Friday, then he can go home again to recover and get ready for the next chemical treatment. If everything stays normal he'll be home for two weeks.

"André and AFTER FOREVER want to thank everybody who have supported us the last few weeks in these difficult times!!!

"We hope André stays in your hearts and that you keep helping him by sending nice mails, postcards, etc. to get him back behind the drum kit as soon as possible!"

As previously reported, AFTER FOREVER are expected to record the bass and the guitars at the Excess Studio in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) again. The vocals, classical stuff and the mix will be done in the Gate Studio of Sascha Peath and Miro in Wolfsburg, Germany.

AFTER FOREVER's latest album, "Invisible Circles", was released in March 2004 through Transmission Records. "Invisible Circles" is the follow-up to "Decipher", which was issued in 2001

Coroner reunion in the works?
Posted by: Stéphane @ 23:35 CET

The legendary technical metal band CORONER from Zurich, Switzerland have been asked to take part in a metal festival to take place in Chicago in late 2005. Guitarist Tommy Vetterli (a.k.a. Tommy T. Baron, more recently of KREATOR) was contacted and offered a headlining slot at the festival, which is reportedly being organized by producer Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, QUEENSRŸCHE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE). If CORONER accept the offer, this will be a highly anticipated reunion of one of the most underrated technical metal bands of all time.

Anyone interested in keeping up to date on happenings with a possible CORONER reunion are encouraged to check out the "unofficial CORONER web site" at this location.

If you wish to lend your support to the idea that CORONER should participate in the upcoming festival, feel free to post on their message board and let them know (the bandmembers reportedly watch this board).

Sentenced to disband after next album
Posted by: Stéphane @ 18:11 CET

SENTENCED have posted the following message at their official website (www.sentenced.org):

Wed better put this out in the open before you hear it somewhere else.

The title of the new album is The Funeral Album, and with it we, SENTENCED, are coming to the end of our road. This album will be our last one.

The decision is mutual, thoroughly thought over and final.

Metaphorically speaking, this is a mass suicide of 5, and the new album is the kind of note we want to leave behind. One last time around for good-byes.

The decision was made during 2004. The reasons are many, and I dont feel any need to go into details here. I will say however, that everyone will walk away as friends. In my eyes we are even not splitting up, but ending our recording career together. And there is major difference between those two. Our wish was always to go out with style and at the peak of our so called success. I think with The Funeral Album we will do exactly that.

Once the album is released, there will be an undefined number of farewell shows. When, where and how many, those are questions that at this point remain open. Intense and long touring, however, will unfortunately not follow, and most of these shows will take place on festivals where we can reach as much people as possible at one time. At the moment it seems that all of these funeral shows will be in Europe.

If everything goes as planned, we will also make a live-DVD out of those last shows and include a lot of stuff from the past on it. Not to mention all the music-videos we have done during the years. The working title for the DVD is Buried Alive.

After that SENTENCED is no more.

And: THIS IS IT. There will not be a reunion, come-back, or any other pathetic and soap-operish circus that seems to be in fashion these days. SENTENCED will rest in peace.

We will make the most out of the bands last year, and hope you will all join us.

See you on the last run.

/Lopakka & SENTENCED.

The Gathering News
Posted by: Matze @ 21:37 CET

First of course Anneke.. She is healthy and fine and will deliver her first child the beginning of february 2005. Everything looks good, and we are all thrilled, of course! We will keep you informed.

René, Frank and Hans build a little studio in the back of the Psychonaut office, and are currently writing new songs. Originally we should start this process of arranging in march 2005, but we had too many ideas, thus we put them on our harddisk before we go on holiday in february.

Marjolein is currently extremely busy with studying, she will join the band rehearsals next week.

Well, we have some pieces of music which work. These pieces are very colourfull.. It is hard to say something about it, things can and will change this year and at the studio recordings, but the guitars are more prominent..
It differs from the Souvenirs material. Guess you already know we love to tear ourself apart, and build up, stone by stone, the new songs. The plan is to record our new album (working title: ‘Your Troubles Are Over‘ ) with Attie Bauw (who worked with us during the ‘How to measure a planet?’ album) around autumn 2005. Release date probably early 2006.

Furthermore, we are currently thinking about recording a DVD this spring.
More info if we have some. Please note we will not tour in 2005, we will only play some gigs for DVD recordings.. We will see. Enough plans..

Cheers!

Brought to you by: Hans.

Several early pictures and a rare, early demo of the classic Bay Area thrash band MORDRED produced by Doug Piercy (HEATHEN, ANVIL CHORUS, THE COMPANY) have been posted online at the Earth-Dog Lounge. The demo contains songs sung by original vocalist Steve Scates featuring a much different sound to the one that the group later became popular with. The tracks featured on the demo are "Sever & Splice", "Mordred", "To There And Back" and "Spellbound".

Opeth News
Posted by: Matze @ 13:31 CET

"OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt recently spoke to Australia's HailMetal.com about the group's current search for a new label home and the band's songwriting process, among other topics. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:

HailMetal.com: Recently your label Music for Nations closed down, leaving OPETH stranded. How has the search for a new label been, and any ideas who are the most likely contenders to sign with?

Mikael Åkerfeldt: "We've gotten a wide array of offers, everything from big labels to labels who want us to pay $200 to appear on some obscure compilation tape.

"To be honest, I don't care who we sign to as long as they can do the job right. I concentrate on the music while our management is taking care of the business.

"Right now I think we've gotten 12 serious offers that we're looking through."

HailMetal.com: Last year "Damnation" was released, an obvious change of style from more aggressive metal to pure melodious rock. I'm aware that this is something of a one-off, and that is wasn't an overall change of style for the band. With this in mind, what did you expect to achieve from this album, and how has the response been?

Mikael Åkerfeldt: "It's been good overall. I think most metal dudes accepted this album as they knew we're into '60s and '70s psychedelia and so on. I love the album. I think it's one of our best however different it might be. 'Damnation' has outsold the previous record and I think the reason being that we've reached out to people who are into rock and psychedelia, like PINK FLOYD or whatever. Many people say to me that they've never been into metal, but they love 'Damnation' and got into OPETH through that album. We're bringing some new people into the metal scene!"

HailMetal.com: The DVD also includes a lengthy documentary on the recordings of your last two albums, "Deliverance" and "Damnation". It seems that your producer Steven Wilson played a strong part in those recording sessions, in both creation and production. Will he be contributing as strongly in the next album, or will his role be downplayed?

Mikael Åkerfeldt: "I don't know. I've asked him to help us out again and he said yes. He's going to produce the next album but we're not sure how it's gonna work. His contribution is very 'heat of the moment' as is the entire recording process for us. If he comes up with an idea, we'll try it. That's basically as far as it goes."

The return of Midnight
Posted by: Stéphane @ 0:11 CET

Black Lotus Records announced the signing of the legendary CRIMSON GLORY singer, Midnight, who returns after 16 years in the wilderness. The Press Release issued follows:
"Words are not enough to describe his truly unique voice, which has marked the history of recorded music and placed him among the most influential singers of the 1980’s. The years have passed, but Midnight refused to get involved in any musical projects after the amazing CRIMSON GLORY albums… and the silence breaks so he returns to the frontline with his first stunning solo work titled “SAKADA” to be released around April 2005. In his comeback, he is surrounded by new musicians (Phil Anderson/Hammer Dulcimer, Drums, Washboard, other percussion, Scott Gibson/ Electric Guitar, Bass, Mandolin) as well as old friends, like Ben Jackson (the rhythm guitarist of CRIMSON GLORY) and other special guests. Prepare your souls for a unique journey across the desert at night on a camel that has no eyes… riding far away to a lonely paradise…. Midnight is here to stay..."

Gorefest news
Posted by: Matze @ 8:38 CET

In an interview with http://www.vampire-magazine.com Gorefest guitarist and founding member Frank Harthoorn mentioned that the band's new material is "pretty loud" but has "No blues in there". That's a bit sad imho as I still think Chapter 13 is a masterpiece - anyway the next release is probably an album to look forward to. :D Gorefest are working on five songs right now, there are no demos though and it seems there haven't talked to any record labels - yet.

In related news, Gorfest is the first band confirmed for next year's Dynamo Open Air.

Vintersorg working on new material.
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:00 CET

VINTERSORG mainman Andreas Hedlund (a.k.a. Vintersorg) has issued the following update regarding the group's current activities:

"We're working hard on the new material. The songs feel very artistic, some progressive elements are of course there, but it's taken a more symphonic approach. The recording of the piece will take place next year and we're really looking forward to it. With so many ideas and visions, we feel that we can produce a very good album. I've also written material for a MCD that takes a look back to the past, while remaining innovative and inspiring. We plan to to record it in 2005 as well."

With regard to his FISSION project, in which he is joined by VINTERSORG live session drummer Benny "Hägge" Hägglund, Hedlund said, "In the FISSION camp everything is great. We have four songs for the next album and are now fine-tuning our sound. So be prepared for a very energetic and thrashy album, where melody is still present. It will have some very haunting moments as well."

Candlemass Re-reunite
Posted by: Stéphane @ 14:03 CET

Legendary Swedish doomsters CANDLEMASS have reconsidered their decision to split up and are headed into the studio to record a new album, tentatively due next summer. The band — vocalist Messiah Marcolin, bassist/founder Leif Edling, guitarist Mats "Mappe" Björkman, lead guitarist Lars Johansson and drummer Jan Lindh — are scheduled to begin recording the album at Stockholm's Polar studios on November 26 and mix the effort in January — just in time for their 20-year anniversary.

Commented Leif: "I had a bunch of pretty cool songs, talked to Mappe quite a lot during the summer and we both agreed it would be stupid not to do anything with it. At Mappe's wedding in August we all went up on a small stage and performed 'Samarithan' and 'Solitude' with pink guitars plus a really shitty sound. We were all absolutely drunk and we had suits and everything on us, but it was great fun!! I think it was that occasion that made us reconsider.

"Shortly after, I started to roughly demo some new tracks. I think I like did five tracks in a couple of weeks with a friend helping out. Then we had a meeting and decided to resurrect CANDLEMASS, book the studio, and send out a three-song demo to the record companies a.s.a.p. So we recorded 'Black Dwarf' and 'Spellbreaker' and put 'Witches' from the previous demo on it and I think the demo is on the way to the labels right now actually.

"Yes, we have two weeks in Polar booked without a deal, ha-ha!! But I'm not worried. I'm sure some smart label guy realize that a new CANDLEMASS album can outsell most of the usual crap that is released today. We are a unique band with a unique sound and next summer will belong to CANDLEMASS!!"

As previously reported, GMR Music has set a November 22 release date for CANDLEMASS' "Essential Doom" CD, a collection of the group's best material plus their newly recorded and previously unreleased song "Witches". The album will come with a bonus DVD featuring video footage of the band's performance at the Rock Hard Festival in Germany in 2003.

RIP Robert Heaton
Posted by: Pax @ 5:41 CET

Rest in Peace, Robert Heaton, drummer and songwriter for New Model Army. One of the best musicians out there, gone to walk the long road...

From www.newmodelarmy.org

It is with great sadness that we report the sudden and unexpected death of Robert Heaton on Thursday November 4th. A multi-talented instrumentalist and song-writer, Robert joined the band in 1982 and for the next fifteen years co-wrote many of the band’s greatest songs, including being responsible for all the music to the anthem “Green & Grey”. A consummate professional when it came to recording and performing, in public Robert was the powerhouse behind the rhythm driven sound of New Model Army. In the media and in private, he was always the perfect gentleman.

Robert left NMA in 1998 having recovered from surgery to remove a brain tumour and since then has worked tirelessly to promote live music and original talent in his home town of Bradford in Yorkshire. His latest project, Fresh Milk, is such a scheme, encouraging young bands playing wholly original music, onto the live circuit by producing low cost, high quality, live recordings for them. He had also been working composing film scores for independent films as well as working on his own new material under the guise of Gardeners of Eden.

A post mortem has determined that Robert had been suffering with pancreatic cancer and it was almost certainly this that was the cause of his sudden and unexpected death.

Robert’s passing will be mourned by family, friends and fans around the world. He leaves a wife, Robin, and young son, Marlon.

06. T.C. Lethbridge (JULIAN COPE cover)

With regards to the band's sound, Walkyier had previously said in a posting on the band's web site: "'Will it be folk or black metal?' I hear you cry. The answer at present is neither, and yet our sound will perhaps eventually incorporate some slight elements of both? Who knows as yet? The initial secret we believe is to first write you all some great songs, and to create something brand-new. How we should finally mix and produce them is something we'll leave open to discussion on the [THE CLAN DESTINED] forum."

Joining Walkyier and Iscariah in the new formation are Lee Cassidy (guitar), Kara Sutra (vocals), Emily Dolan Davies (drums), and Tony Wildwood (guitar). The band's upcoming demo "will eventually become the culmination of several years painstaking lyric-writing and musical composition," according to a press release. "THE CLAN DESTINED has at this moment neither management or record-company backing — preferring to rely entirely on the support of our many loyal fans and friends until an efficient and trustworthy (!) manager and label present themselves."

Former THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL "goddess of beauty" Kari Rueslåtten (presently known simply as Kari) will release her fourth solo album, "Other People's Stories", in January via GMR/Peach Music. The complete track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Other People's Stories
02. Sorrow To My Door
03. Cry
04. Dogstar
05. When Lilies Bloom On Winter Days
06. Push
07. Ride
08. Fishing
09. Carved In Stone
10. Life
11. Orlando

As previously reported, the follow-up to 2002's "Pilot" is said to be "filled with [Kari's] best songs to date as well as wonderfully produced." A live video was recently shot for the album's title track.

With regards to the album's title, Kari had previously stated, "The idea behind this title is that all the songs tell somebody's story, but their story could also be my own. People make choices that sometimes is beyond our understanding. But if we were to be in their position we might have done exactly the same."

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES: New Studio CD To Come Out After 'Return To Venice' Compilation
Posted by: Matze @ 16:35 CET

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES have issued the following statement in an effort to clear up possible misunderstandings with regards to their new studio album:

"'Return to Venice' will be released before the real new SUICIDAL TENDENCIES album. Because of [singer] Mike Muir's back status, the band decided to release the compilation first. Obviously this album will have different artwork than the 'new-cover-photo-idea', which has just been sent out to the guy who's gonna finalize the cover concept. Also, 'Return to Venice' will feature a compilation of bands attached to Suicidal Records and/or Venice and will contain no re-recordings of the classic 1985 'Welcome To Venice'."

Annihilator's Jeff Waters knows how to get attention :D
Posted by: Matze @ 8:42 CET

ANNIHILATOR mainman Jeff Waters has posted several audio clips backing up his claim that he is the fastest/tightest-picking guitarist in the world. Check out the clips at this location.

Commented Waters: "I was sitting here yesterday thinking of how I could stir up a bit of poop in the good ole USA; we don't get any coverage there, remember, and our 10th studio CD 'All For You' is due out today in the USA on The End Records. So i figured I would make up a silly statement like that (fastest/tightest picking guitarist in the world!), well-hidden in my answers to some fan questions, but knowing, very well, that my two favorite metal web sites would immediately seize that one short sentence and headline it! hehe! They did.

"Now thousands of USA metal kids are all talking about me; most not very nicely, but talking all the same! Funny thing how quick people immediately respond 'no he ain't' and they either haven't heard me before OR have only heard the 'All For You' clip OR have only heard 'Alice'/'Neverland'!

"And by the way, I couldn't care less about who can play fast... all you fans here know that this is the furthest thing from my mind. But I am the fastest, if you factor in tightest picking; they just don't know it so they react aggresively! Pretty interesting human nature. I think I will still run with that statement because it is getting us a lot of talk in the USA right now and, more importantly, I can also back it up!"

RIP John Peel
Posted by: Matze @ 16:03 CET

Jaxtraw just sent in the following message:

The British Radio 1 DJ John Peel died today and, like many British music lovers, I am in shock and deeply saddened. I'm not qualified enough to write an obituary for this great man, so all I can do is express my sadness and condolences to his family.

John Peel was 65 when he died suddenly in Peru from a heart attack. He had become an institution, a hugely respected man for his tireless work promoting and nuturing talented young artists and bands and helping them to get heard through the wall of noise produced by the commercial mainstream. Just about every band you've heard of, from the 70s onwards did a "Peel Session" and many of these are classics.

Perhaps his most daring move was his decision to champion Punk back in the days when it was seen as a terrifying revolution, and this on his show on the conservative BBC. He supported reggae before that was commercial, and ska, and all manner of alternative and sometimes downright weird minority music.

He created a platform for music to get heard that never would otherwise.

John Peel's contribution to music was immeasurable, and the world is today a poorer place.

GOREFEST Reform, Begin Work On New Material
Posted by: Matze @ 17:52 CET

Veteran Dutch metallers GOREFEST have reunited and are currently writing material for a new album. "They have rehearsed a few times now the first day they played a few old songs but the second day they already started to write new songs!" reads a posting on the group's official web site, Gorefest.nl. "Three songs are already recorded and the guys are listening to them at home and playing around with them. [Bassist/vocalist Jan-Chris de Koeijer] said that at least one of the new songs is faster than everything they ever did. He assures us that the next record will be a hard and dark album, and he means very hard! When we will see this new album.... well, no hurries. In October they are going into the studio again to record some more but they don't follow deadlines anymore. They do it when they want to and don't want to feel that pressure anymore."

GOREFEST released several CDs through the Nuclear Blast label in the early 1990s before switching to SPV for their last album, 1998's "Chapter 13".

Dark Tranquility "Character" in january
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:29 CET

Sweden's DARK TRANQUILLITY have set "Character" as the title of their new full-length album, due on January 24 in Europe and January 25 in North America. An EP, entitled "Lost To Apathy", will precede the album on November 15. Both releases will surface through Century Media Records, who recently signed the band to a brand-new three-album deal.

Commented Leif Jensen of Century Media's European A&R department: "DARK TRANQUILLITY are the originators and innovators of the melodic death metal style and a total favourite band for Century Media's staff, so we are all extremely proud about the professional and very successful co-operation we managed to have with the band so far! And this is only the beginning because the band has signed a new worldwide contract with Century Media and we are looking forward to break new ground for them with their outstanding next album 'Character'. This one won't leave you unimpressed...watch out!"

The band added: "We are exceptionally satisfied to announce that we've chosen to continue our cooperation with Century Media for another three albums. After lengthy negotiations with several prolific labels, the dotted line was finally signed and we have full confidence that we've made the right choice and that there are some excellent years ahead — both for us and for Century Media. As some of you know, the new CD is already recorded and mixed, and the response for the live previews of the song 'One Thought' has been truly great throughout the summer festivals, so we're eagerly anticipating the release of the album."

DARK TRANQUILLITY will be supporting thrash metal icons KREATOR all over Europe on the lengthy "Enemy Of God" tour beginning on February 2. Two additional support acts will be announced soon. Prior to the KREATOR tour, DARK TRANQUILLITY will play a special Metal Hammer-sponsored U.K. one-off gig with labelmates ARCH ENEMY and THE HAUNTED on December 17 at the Forum in London.

Ataraxia's vittorio vandelli to do solo project based on S.T.Coleridge
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:39 CET

Vittorio Vandelli
' A Day of warm Rain in Heaven '

"Alone, alone on a wide wide sea ! and never a saint
took pity on my soul in agony.
I looked to heaven and tried to pray but or even a prayer had gusht,
a wicked whisper came and made my heart as dry as dust.
Since then, at an uncertain hour, that agony returns and till
my ghastly tale is told, this heart within me burns."
S.T. Coleridge

CD digipack available from September 20th 2004 by Equilibrium Music - Portugal
Vittorio Vandelli's first soloist album, 'A Day of warm Rain in Heaven', transposes
into music the romantic opus of S.T. Coleridge, 'The rhyme of the ancient mariner',
an odissey through sin, death and re-birth until the achievement of wisdom.
The trip of the protagonist reflects Vittorio's existential experience, a spiritual
experience that each of us could be called to live. The ability to sublimate all of this
into music seems to be the only way to fight the tempest and survive the storming
sea. Ambient tunes alternate with timeless ballads; short industrial moments
precede ethereal compositions; soft-electronic episodes follow hypnotic lullabies
and atmospheric airs introduce moving sonatas in his unique style.
Vittorio felt the urge to follow the creative processus from the beginning to the end
starting from the musical idea, passing through execution and finally reaching
recording and mixing. This album features Francesca Nicoli on vocals who has
been able to confer even more pathos and strenght to the music. Her vocal work is
the result of a sudden enlightenment after the very first listening of the tracks.

Lacuna coil in studio early next year
Posted by: Stéphane @ 7:06 CET

LACUNA COIL frontwoman Cristina Scabbia and guitarist Cristiano Migliore have spoken to Billboard.com about their burgeoning success in the wake of the group's appearance at this year's Ozzfest festival. The group's latest Century Media album, "Comalies" (2002), has sold 147,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, becoming the label's first release to break the 100,000 barrier.

"We're really proud to be considered a breakout band, but I'm really scared about those names, because it's kind of like a bad luck thing," Scabbia told Billboard.com. "We try not to think about it. We're really easy-going people, so we don't want to act like rock stars, stuff like that. [We] just want to be satisfied with our music, we just want to enjoy what we do."

Migliore says the band's post-Ozzfest plans include a return to Milan and some time off before beginning a new album. "We'll start working on the new stuff and hopefully we'll start [recording] in January or February so the album can be out by May," he says.

Flogging Molly: new album
Posted by: Matze @ 23:17 CET

"Within a Mile of Home", Flogging Molly's highly anticipated full-length follow-up to 2002's "Drunken Lullabies", will hit the stores on September 14.

Flogging Molly continue to breed traditional Irish influences and heavy-hearted storytelling with brazen, barn-burning punk rock. At the same time, the ballads that have become welcome staples to their live show (giving the audience a break from the frenzy) are also stronger than ever. Look for a couple surprises this time around, such as a Cajun vibe on "Tomorrow Comes A Day Too Soon", and a guest appearance by Lucinda Williams on "Factory Girls".

Tristania names new album!
Posted by: Stéphane @ 17:59 CET

Norwegian symphonic metal band TRISTANIA have set "Ashes" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in January 2005 through SPV Records. The follow-up to 2001's "World of Glass" was recorded at Toproom studios in Oslo with producer Børge Finstad and will feature artwork by Christian Ruud. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "The Gate", "The Cure", "Libre", "The Wretched", "Equilibrium" and "Shadowman". A comprehensive studio report and a description of the album by the band is available at this location.

In other news, TRISTANIA are currently preparing for their upcoming European tour with THERION and TRAIL OF TEARS. "It will be great to go out on the road again, and present you some of the new material," TRISTANIA write on their web site. "A couple of weeks ago, we did our first show after a long break from touring while we have worked on the new album — on the M'era Luna festival in Hildesheim, Germany (setlist). It was a good concert, and the audience also seemed to enjoy the 2 new songs we did. It was great for us to finally begin with the live part again. The upcoming tour will be quite long, I believe 30 shows in 31 days. We're looking forward to it!"

The Clandestined's announcement

Official Press Release from www.theclandestined.com

The Clan Has Landed!

Once upon a sweltering week in early August 2004, whilst the pavements of Central London lay gently melting beneath the Martian heat-ray of global-warming; Six extremely moist, yet undaunted minstrels did gather within the steamy confines of a practically airtight rehearsal studio. And from out this broiling cauldron, filled with sound and fury, something truly magikal was born. Over four years of careful planning & preparation, all focussed towards this most singular & destined meeting.

It is with an enormous sense of pride that The Clan Destined is finally able to announce the line-up which we’ve assembled in order to spearhead our initial musical offensive. Pictured here from left to right; Lee Cassidy - guitar, Kara Sutra - vocals, Emily Dolan Davies - drums, Martin Walkyier - vocals, Tony Wildwood - guitar and Iscariah - bass guitar. This dedicated team of musicians is currently working very hard to complete the debut, self-financed TCD demo-recordings, which will eventually become the culmination of several years painstaking lyric-writing and musical composition. The Clan Destined has at this moment neither management or record-company backing - Preferring to rely entirely on the support of our many loyal fans and friends until an efficient and trustworthy (!) manager and label present themselves.

The Clan Destined is intended to be something completely fresh and unique from the very outset. In a world obsessed with faiths and colours, trends and genres; We each desire this TCD project to become a united collective which both transcends the current boundaries and sets a whole new bench-mark within the extreme music scene. In our considered opinions there is no real purpose whatsoever in trying to copy that which has already been done before. The current objective being to create something entirely new & ground-breaking at all costs. Exactly how long this takes to achieve will depend solely upon how much help we receive from you good people out there. We simply cannot do this without your involvement. So if you want to become part of something truly special, then the time has now come to climb aboard. I Am Because We Are!

King's X News
Posted by: Matze @ 18:16 CET

KING'S X frontman Doug Pinnick has issued the following update on his recent activities:

"The project with [PEARL JAM bassist] Jeff [Ament], Mike and [drummer] Richard [Stuverud] sort of has a southern rock classic sound, a bit of the ROLLING STONES vibe, a little jam band vibe on some songs… Some groovy funky tunes, a few beautiful ballads… about 14 songs.. Jeff on bass, Richard on drums and me on guitar on half of it… then Mike showed up and we rocked out about 7 more with him on guitar also… 15 songs... Richard and I do all the vocals… I got to play a little slide guitar also... There is one song has a stones vibe with African drums made out of tree trunks… Jeff lives on the side of a mountain overlooking a valley, it was so peaceful there and the love was awesome... We have to do a final tweak before it gets mixed… We have no name yet or a release date... Hopefully with all the [PEARL JAM] fans online, it will help promote the KING'S X stuff and get a few folks to check out the KING'S X web site... Tentatively called MONTANA maybe... It's all good!

"Reb Beach (WINGER) and I were asked to make a CD of '80s-type music for a European label (Frontiers Records). So far we have 6 songs… They sound like BON JOVI, DOKKEN, WHITESNAKE, sort of. But with my twist for vocals... Reb wrote the songs and they are really good songs... We hope to get it finished after Reb comes back of tour with WHITESNAKE… Tentative title of the project? DEVIL'S CHILDREN.

"Jerry moved to New Jersey to be with his love... We miss him but we understand... And it wont change anything with KING'S X.

"Ty and I have hooked up with Randall amps to endorse their new product. MTS series... Free gear! Yeas!!!!

"My POUNDHOUND? Well, I am going to just call it ... working title… 'Emotional Animal'. I mixed it at my studio but I just purchased some new mixing software and a new compressor. So I am waiting for it to be sent to me (FedEx)… Then I should have it finished before we head out for the next tour.

"I am planning 2 videos, Hal Sparks committed to do one and I have a new video guy who wants to do another one for free!

"The live KING'S X is done! Working title? 'King's X
Live All Over The Place'. It's a double CD. No overdubs, so at times is really rough but has lots of vibe.. Most all live CDs are mostly overdubbed. That's why they sound so perfect… After I learned this, I didn't feel so bad about my performance on this live one... This CD shows our flaws and magic... Hopefully y'all will like it....I dug out about 200 live pics for the CD also… Many candid shots... So hopefully there will be a big booklet in the CD packaging...

"I am writing tunes (demos) for the next CD also to add to the 4 songs we have already, which are 'Allison', 'Fly', 'Open My Eyes' and 'If'… We are doing it like we used to in the early days, some old demos and lots of new stuff... Hopefully this is what you die-hards are waiting for.... [Producer] Michael Wagener has been awesome working with... The next tour.... We hope to do the 4 new songs on tour.... A sort of sneak peek...

"We are talking to Atlantic about re mastering and re releasing the first 4 CDs in a box set with an extra CD of a rehearsal… the first one before the last tour... It's funny and will be a treat for the fans we hope... This project is in just the talking phase right now..."

In related news, KING'S X guitarist Ty Tabor will release the new THE JELLY JAM album, entitled "2", on September 14 through InsideOut Music. A U.S. release date has yet to be announced.

"The Jelly Jam 2" (view cover here) track listing:

01. Not Today (3:22)
02. Coming Round (3:37)
03. Empty (5:24)
04. Drop The Gun (3:04)
05. Allison (5:32)
06. Maybe (4:45)
07. She Was Alone (4:34)
08. Angel Or Devil (4:50)
09. You Don't Need Me Anymore (2:40)
10. Runaway (3:15)
11. War Is... (3:27)
12. Message (0:36)

A bunch of photos from legendary NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) band SATAN's one-off reunion show Friday (August 6) at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival have been posted online at this location (courtesy of Germany's Bright-Eyes.de).

As previously reported, Singer joined the group in May as the replacement for Lee Morris, who left the band in March due to "personal and musical differences." "Symbol Of Life", PARADISE LOST's ninth studio album, was produced by Fulber and was released in the U.S. through Koch Entertainment.

Angra complete work on new cd
Posted by: Stéphane @ 19:25 CET

Brazil's ANGRA have completed work on their follow-up to 2001's "Rebirth", tentatively due this fall through SPV Records (NTS Records in France). The band have posted the following message regarding the as-yet-untitled effort: "First of all, the songs are awesome! Really, really good! The production is perfect too, the sound of instruments is even heavier and clearer than in our previous albums. The band sounds more powerful and tighter as well.

"This is a very complex record, truly sophisticated. It's not just another metal album, it’s much more than that. The richness of the songs can be felt in the concept, the versatility, the spontaneity, the technique, the feeling and the emotions that flow throughout the whole record. It's easy to figure out our emotions in the tracks. It's a special thing, totally unconventional.

"The story is about the saga of a crusader knight that ends up disputing the expansionist ideals of the Catholic Church in the eleventh century. He is known as The Shadow Hunter. His way of thinking changes step by step until he gets to the point of beginning a new reforming order. There's a lot of things happening in his life and each song is a chapter of the story. It's amazing to follow the lyrics as you listen to the songs. Each situation is totally different from the other.

"Overall, this album is a bit longer than the others ANGRA has made so far. We tried to do something new and didn’t think twice about the possibility of experimenting. After all, we always focus in the artistic side and in what has been ANGRA's most striking mark since day one: ORIGINALITY!

"Today is July 14th and we are leaving for Japan. We'll meet Kiko there (he's going from Brazil) and the three of us are gonna promote the album. We're doing a couple of acoustic gigs, plus interviews, photo sessions and so on. However, we look forward to coming back to Brazil and showing to the fans what we achieved in the new album, ANGRA's very best in our opinion."

Tristania Update
Posted by: Matze @ 14:45 CET

From www.tristania.com

5th July 2004 - New album close to finished
Tristania has returned from 9 weeks in the TopRoom studio and report great confidence in the new-recorded material. Only minor elements remain before everything is completed. The final title has not yet been decided, but the planned release date is 18th of October. The band is anxious to release this album and show their fans what they have been up to these last few years. They are also looking forward to get back on tour and present the new material live.
Anders' summary of the new album is "heavy and organic". They are working on a comprehensive studio report, which we will post here on the site in the next few days.

5th July 2004 - New record contract with SPV
Tristania is about to sign with SPV. The band is very happy with the contract, which is being finalized now. They are satisfied with SPV as their future collaborator. Several companies were interested, but SPV made the strongest offer and seemed to be the ones who would best support the band's efforts.
SPV is a strong contender that will promote and distribute Tristania worldwide. SPV has previously acted as a distributor for Tristania, which the band regards as an advantage. They are looking forward to the cooperation with SPV in the coming years.

5th July 2004 - Tour in planning
The next few days will reveal the dates for the first tour after the release of the new album. It will be an extensive European tour. Tristania is looking forward to getting back on the road and back on stage after this long break from touring, due in large to work on the new album. The last European tour the band had was almost three years back - it's about time they headed back out!

Thanks, Ed! :)

Tom Fischer (Celtic Frost) to release a solo album
Posted by: Matze @ 18:30 CET

Yes, I am working on a solo album, and I am aiming at releasing it next year. This will in no way negatively affect or delay work on the new CF album. Quite the opposite - I began work on my own album because of my frustration over the extremely long gestation period of the CF album and my inability (in spite of a number of efforts) to speed up its completion. I am, after all, only one factor of many that influence the pace and the ultimate result of a new CF album recording.

I never seriously pursued the idea of a "solo album" (and I actually find that term ridiculous). But a little over a year ago, I began to complete music for an album of my own. I felt (and feel) barely able to contain my impatience and frustration over the slow progress of the CF album, no matter how happy I was/am about the music we have written for it.

The CF album has become extremely heavy over the past year, and I have written virtually all of that music, together with Erol. It is amazing and intoxicating to see and hear the band like this. But it is as important to me that a CF album also contains the typical ingredient of material that is different and that no other band would dare to include - just as we have done on our first three albums. But a key member of the band disagreed. There were numerous songs I submitted for inclusion on the CF album that were turned down; it was felt that these songs did not have a place on a CF album because they were too experimental. The rejected music is very closely related to my personal life and emotions, and there was no way I was just going to throw it away.

The delays and the above scenario are the two reasons why I am working on my first album of my own. I have the music for eight songs completed and will begin vocal recordings this summer. The album will not sound like Apollyon Sun. It is much more somber and utterly dark, as has been my life in recent years. The music can perhaps be described as dark wave, electronica... or, much better, as my innermost feelings and emotions turned into soundscapes, aural paintings. Since I was no longer bound by the identity of CF when working on this material, the songs have become far more electronic than how I imagined them played by CF. On the other hand, when I showcased some material to my close friends, they all said it sounds exactly like Frost. They were also rather taken aback by the darkness of it all.

Musically, I am very happy right now, as I have the opportunity to complete two different but related works side-by-side. As much as I hate that it takes so long, the CF album will leave no questions unanswered. Of that I am sure. And my own album is very important to me personally. The parallel existence of CF allows me to focus solely on my own needs and to not be bound by sales or sound expectations. I am doing this just for me, and if only a handful of people out there will understand the emotions contained therein, these people and me will share something very special and very personal.

With much love and gratitude

Ron Marks (ex-Celtic Frost) Signs With SONIC WAVE INTERNATIONAL
Posted by: Matze @ 16:12 CET

SUBSONIC, the solo project of former CELTIC FROST guitarist Ron Marks, will be issuing its sophomore album, "No Such Soul", this fall through Sonic Wave America. The follow-up to 2002's "Super-Vel" (Outlaw Entertainment) will be available worldwide at such stores as Best Buy, Tower, Borders, Wherehouse, FYE, Sam Goody, Amazon.com, CD NOW, Music Boulevard, CD Universe, Sonic Wave America online stores, and many regional and independent retail chains.

Anand Bhatt, President of Sonic Wave International, says: "I'm really excited to release the new SUBSONIC project! CELTIC FROST and Ron Marks fans will be VERY pleased. We have always been a strong independent force in heavy music, and it's an honor that Ron chose us to put out the new release."

Ron Marks had the following to say about the songwriting on his latest effort: "When I think about the music and the CD title, thoughts of independence and not selling your mind or soul to anyone are the prevailing visions. Yes, I'm writing about american society because that's where I live. But the lyrics go beyond that into what humanity has done throughout history and continues to do. And more so, how we never learn from our mistakes. For instance, the latest track is called 'Delilahs' and is about human betrayal on a global and perpetual scale with a little of the middle eastern war thrown around the edges."

Ron is a resident of Hermitage, PA and has performed in several music related projects as well as recording as SUBSONIC for the last 5 years. In his youth he and friend Dan Laudo (drummer for PRONG) played in a band with none other than Trent Reznor. Ron Marks has been called "an unusual and almost heavier version of Frank Zappa."

Evanescence working on new songs
Posted by: Stéphane @ 23:44 CET

EVANESCENCE frontwoman Amy Lee has told Billboard.com that the writing process for the group's sophomore album is going well. "I've had the chance to really write [this year]," she said. "I bought a house — I'd been homeless forever. I've been playing my piano in the middle of the night, whenever, lighting candles and writing. It's so gratifying. I just feel complete again.

"The songs aren't ready yet," she continued. "They're all little skeletons of songs and structures. I don't want to blow the secret before they've had time to grow."

Rage guitarist temporaily replaced cause of illness
Posted by: Stéphane @ 22:19 CET

RAGE guitarist Victor Smolski fell "seriously ill" following the group's performance at the Gods of Metal festival last weekend. Smolski is now "in the hospital" and "he will not take part at the 24h race at the Nürburgring, and he also can't play the Helfenstein concert in Geislingen [Germany on June 19]," reads a post on the group's web site. Replacing Victor at the Helfenstein festival will be former RAGE guitarist Manni Schmidt. However, the group point out that Manni's appearance with RAGE in Geislingen will be a one-time-only event and no additional joint live appearances are currently planned. Smolski is expected to fully recover in time for the band's performance at the Raismesfest in Raismem, France on September 11.

End of Music For Nations
Posted by: Stéphane @ 16:15 CET

Sad News - Legendary U.K. record label Music For Nations current home of OPETH and ANATHEMA and past home of METALLICA, CRADLE OF FILTH, TESTAMENT and countless other metal bands has officially closed its doors. The company's catalogue which has previously included titles from artists as varied as LOST HORIZON and FRANK ZAPPA will be folded into parent company Zomba Records Group (the world's largest independent music group).

Launched in 1983 by Martin Hooker, Music For Nations established itself as a European leader in the rock and metal world, with early signings like METALLICA (who had three gold albums while on MFN), SLAYER and MEGADETH paving the way. As Music For Nations grew, the company expanded its operation to include not just licensed acts from the USA, but its own signings.

Theatre of tragedy have announced new singer
Posted by: Stéphane @ 9:19 CET

Norway's THEATRE OF TRAGEDY have announced the addition of THE CREST singer Nell to the group's ranks. Nell joins THEATRE OF TRAGEDY as the replacement for Liv Kristine, who was acrimoniously fired from the band last August. The following is THEATRE OF TRAGEDY's official statement on the latest lineup change:

"After the announcement of THEATRE OF TRAGEDY parting ways with lead singer Liv Kristine in late August 2003, THEATRE OF TRAGEDY decided to withdraw and keep a low profile.

"All the while, the songwriting activity was kept steady, and at the same time started the search for a new singer. The search had not lasted very long until a strong candidate emerged, and very soon found a natural position within the band, even before an actual decision was made. The new singer, Nell (origin: Norway), quickly proved a refreshing addition to the group, being honest and outspoken, enthusiastic, and with a general working attitude that further strengthened the band's internal bonding.

"With a strong and temperamental voice, she fit well into the current style of the band, aiming more for a darker atmospheric, brooding and simplified style, rather than the efficient rock/pop song with dense layers of electronics. And although largely lacking the 'Beauty and the Beast' contrast of the band's early recordings, there is still a complementary tension between Nell's and Raymond's vocals.

Falconer parts ways with bassist and guitarist
Posted by: Stéphane @ 19:27 CET

Sweden's FALCONER have parted ways with second guitarist Anders Johansson and bassist Peder Johansson. "A big discussion took place after the gig in Motala (Swe) as we started to talk about the future of FALCONER," mainman Stefan Weinerhall writes in an official press release. "Two camps quickly formed about the issue. The talk started to get more and more aggressive until it took an ugly turn as Peder started to let his hands do the talking, but luckily Kristoffer stepped in and stopped it from getting really bad.

"Although our intoxicated state of mind probably made the argument worse, it has left deep scars. After this incident the contacts has been very chilly with especially Peder but also Anders.

"Karsten, Kristoffer and I believe that the tension will undermine the future atmosphere of the band if they were to stay. It's better to go our separate ways and let them follow their ideas with their other band GUINEAPIGS.

"We don't think nor hope that Peder and Anders have a different opinion about the decision we have taken."

FALCONER released their third album, "The Sceptre Of Deception", last October through Metal Blade Records.

Skyclad new album delayed but available on their site
Posted by: Stéphane @ 19:25 CET

Headlines - The Latest News

23rd May 2004 - Important announcement;

Release of 'A Semblance Of Normality' delayed.

We are sorry to announce that the release of the band's latest album 'A Semblance of Normality' has been put back until September. This is due to restructuring taking place at Dreamcatcher, who are to promote and distribute the album along with Demolition records. While, in the short-term, this may appear to be bad news for all the Skyclad fans eager to get their hands on said album, it is hoped that, in the long-term, the changes being made will be extremely beneficial to the band in terms of overall promotion and distribution (which should also include the US and Japanese releases). We will, of course, inform everyone as to the new release date and other promotional plans in the very near future.

However, it is not all bad news. While the 'official' release date may be several months away, the band have managed to secure a 'limited number' of 'A Semblance Of Normality' which may be ordered via the official website from Monday 24th of May - a kind of a 'limited release' especially for our fans. To order the new album from our web shop click here :

Rhapsody names new cd
Posted by: Stéphane @ 10:28 CET

Italian symphonic metal band RHAPSODY have set "Symphony Of Enchanted Lands Part 2 - The Dark Secret" as the title of their forthcoming full-length album, due in September through Magic Circle Music/SPV.

As previously reported, the upcoming CD will feature a very special appearance by acclaimed actor Christopher Lee ("Star Wars - Episode 2: Attack of the Clones", "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring", "Gremlins II", "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"). Mr. Lee is no stranger to music and recording studios as he is a classically trained opera singer himself. He will be providing a powerful narration on the forthcoming self-produced CD of the Italy-based group.

Among other well-known narrators and London actors, Lee will guide the listeners in the role of a king through a unique saga invented by RHAPSODY's founding members Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli. As a special surprise, Mr. Lee's daughter Christina Lee will also appear in the part of a warrior princess. Incidentally this will mark the first time father and daughter will work together.

RHAPSODY's new CD is being recorded in four different studios in Europe with appearances by more than a dozen international guest soloists. Also appearing on the album will be the entire Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra from the Czech Republic as well as a 50-piece choir.

RHAPSODY are scheduled to release a new mini-CD, entitled "The Dark Secret", on May 29 through Magic Circle Music/SPV. The mini-CD will be packaged with a limited edition bonus DVD containing "Making of" footage for the new album (incl. interview sequences with Christopher Lee) and a 5.1 Mix of "Unholy Warcry" (short version).

KING'S X have abandoned plans to film their May 23 performance at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California for an upcoming DVD. No reason was given for the change of plans. The band are still planning on recording various shows on the upcoming North American tour for a live album — a double-CD affair containing "lots of songs," according to an online posting from guitarist Ty Tabor. In addition to all of the group's classics, the live album is expected to include an acoustic portion featuring songs rarely performed by the band.

The end of Candlemass...
Posted by: Stéphane @ 10:19 CET

Legendary Swedish doomsters CANDLEMASS have officially split up — seemingly for the last time.

"We are truly sorry to inform you that CANDLEMASS have disbanded!" reads a posting on the group's web site. "This is sad news for us and everybody else that love this fantastic band. There will be no more gigs, no new album, no more doom! This is it... finished... zero... nada... out!!!

"Despite the tremendous success of the reunion, everything hasn’t been perfect. Tiny cracks in the façade could be seen during the first round in the summer of 2002 because members of the band do not share the same vision of [CANDLEMASS], the gigs, an eventual new album, democracy etc, and last year it became clear that the differences were too large to overcome. A demo was recorded but the internal problems overshadowed the fun of playing. The gig at Klubben (Stockholm) Nov. 29 came to be the last and final [one] for CANDLEMASS.

"The band have tried to save the situation. There have been meetings and discussions, but unfortunately it hasn’t been possible for the five members to agree on how CANDLEMASS could work in the future. The members would have loved to continue but the chemistry is just not there anymore. The magic is gone..."

Primordial signed to metal blade records
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:00 CET

Metal Blade announced the signing of PRIMORDIAL. This is what A.A. Nemtheanga - singer in PRIMORDIAL - had to say:
"We are proud to announce we have signed a world wide deal with Metal Blade Records. After thirteen years in existence this will be our fourth record label and hopefully our last. Some may find Primordial and Metal Blade a strange combination as we have musically relatively little in common with many of the bands on the roster but that's what makes it such an interesting and challenging combination on so many levels. We had other offers and interest from various labels and it was clear to us we had to step things up with a bigger label. When we looked at things in the cold light the Metal Blade offer was by the far the best and it became clear to us that we were dealing with a genuine label run by Metal fans for Metal fans with a vast Metal legacy over three decades and not with one eye always on the profit margin. We hope to record our next (fifth) album during the Summer/Autumn with famed engineer/producer Billy Anderson here in Ireland for an early Winter release. We have a few European shows here and there before then so until then.vae victis

Gary Moore news
Posted by: Stéphane @ 10:52 CET

Legendary guitarist Gary Moore has set "Power of the Blues" as the title of his new studio album, due on June 7 through Sanctuary Records. The new album is a continuation of the rock/blues tradition that Moore started on in the early 1990s.

"Power of the Blues" features Gary Moore on vocals and guitar, Bob Daisley (ex-RAINBOW, OZZY OSBOURNE) on bass, and Darrin Mooney on drums. Daisley last played with Gary on the "Still Got the Blues" album in 1990 after being a regular band member live and on record throughout the 1980s. Mooney joined Gary for the "A Different Beat" tour in 1999, and has been the regular drummer on the past three albums. "Power of the Blues" is produced by Gary Moore and Chris Tsangarides (credits include THIN LIZZY and JUDAS PRIEST).

"Power of the Blues" (view cover here) track listing:

01. Power Of The Blues (G. Moore/B. Daisley/D. Mooney)
02. There's A Hole (G. Moore)
03. Tell Me Woman (G. Moore)
04. I Can't Quit You Baby (Willie Dixon)
05. That's Why I Play The Blues (G. Moore)
06. Evil (Willie Dixon)
07. Getaway Blues (G. Moore/B. Daisley/D. Mooney)
08. Memory Pain (P. Mayfield)
09. Can't Find My Baby (G. Moore)
10. Torn Inside (G. Moore)

"Power of the Blues" is Moore's 23rd solo album. His second album, "Back On the Streets" (1978), which included his evocative single "Parisienne Walkways" (Top Ten in April 1979) with Phil Lynott on guest vocals, launched his solo career in earnest. In the 1990s he formed BBM with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker before continuing with his solo career. In 2002 he formed and released an album with SCARS, featuring ex-SKUNK ANANSIE bassist Cass Lewis and drummer Darrin Mooney. Moore toured with WHITESNAKE in 2003 on the Monsters of Rock Tour and subsequently released a live album in September 2003.

The follow-up to 2000's "Mirage", "Carnage Carnival" will mark MEMORY GARDEN's first release since their split with Metal Blade Records in early 2002.

Cocteau Twins reunion rumors denied
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:50 CET

Cocteau Twins STILL Broken Up
In case anyone doesn't know yet—as widespread as this information is—Cocteau Twins broke up several years ago while recording the follow-up LP to the 1996 album Milk & Kisses. They no longer live near one another, and do not make music together as a band anymore. They are each pursuing separate careers at this point. As of this writing, there are no plans for a reunion, nor are there any plans for the unfinished album to ever be released.

To keep track of what the individual former band members are doing, bookmark this page and/or visit www.cocteautwinsforums.com.

MOSTLY AUTUMN Part Ways With Drummer, Announce Replacement
Posted by: Matze @ 21:57 CET

"British Celtic-influenced progressive rock band MOSTLY AUTUMN have parted ways with drummer Jonathan Blackmore.

"There is a great deal to do if the band is to achieve all we hope to do over the coming years and Jonathan felt unable to make the extra commitment which we need in terms of time and effort," the band write on their web site.

"We fully understand and respect this decision and wish Jonathan every success in his musical career outside of MOSTLY AUTUMN. We would also like to thank Jonathan for all of his hard work to date.

"Andrew Jennings will be taking over from Jonathan with immediate effect

"Andrew is the brother of keyboard player Iain and as a fully trained classical percussionist brings an impeccable musical pedigree to the band. The first performance by MOSTLY AUTUMN with Andrew Jennings on drums [took place] at the Y Theatre Leicester on April 3rd."

MOSTLY AUTUMN's fourth full-length album, "Passengers", was released last May though the Classic Rock Legends label."
